June 17, 2020 www.DesertMessenger.com 13 ten to the needs of our community as an individual who helps decide the future of our small town. It would be my responsibility to guide our town into the future with the interests of our community, the worries of our community, the safety of our com- munity, and the overall success for the future for Quartzsite, Arizona. NORMAN SIMPSON 2. Quartzsite Town Mayor 3. E-mail catfishnorm@yahoo.com 4. I have served 4 years as Mayor of Quartzsite; 6 years as Council- man; 2 years as Chairman of Plan- ning & Zoning Commission; 4 years as Chairman of Bouse Fire District Board; 10 years as La Paz Regional Hospital (LPRH) Governing Board member, with 2 years as Chairman of the Board; 4 years La Paz Eco- nomic Development Commission Board; 4 years Western Arizona Council of Governments (WACOG) Executive Board, currently serving as Secretary; President of 2 Cham- bers of Commerce; current Cham- ber Board Member. 5. I have participated in nearly all Quartzsite Town Council Functions; Chamber of Commerce functions; WACOG Board Meetings; League of Arizona Cities & Towns Confer- ences; LPRH functions and board meetings; Buck Connors Day and Walk In The Past celebrations. 6. I have proposed stabilizing the Quartzsite economy through growth. I would attract new businesses which would provide a sustainable year- round economy. I would continue my support toward providing affordable housing for employees and their fam- ilies and improving the K-12 schools for their children. 7. With my 30 years of leadership experience I will lead Quartzsite into an era of "new growth." MONICA TIMBERLAKE 2. 2-yr Town Council seat 3. Facebook–Monica Timberlake 4. For 10 years I have served as a elected board member on the Quartzsite Elementary School Dis- trict. I also serve on the Board of Di- rectors for the Arizona School Board Association (ASBA) and on various committees within ASBA includ- ing Governance, Legislative and Equity. I currently serve as Chair on Town of Quartzsite Parks and Recreation Board, Quartzsite Area Chamber of Commerce and Tour- ism Board Member, and a member of the Quartzsite Urban Economic Sustainability Team. Serving on boards of varied organizations and committees has given me the op- portunity to work well with people of different backgrounds. I have good communication skills and I'm able to negotiate and compromise for the betterment of the organiza- tion I'm representing. I'm very well trained in open meeting law and parliamentary procedure with over 400 continuing education credits. I have earned the Masters in Boards- manship from the Arizona School Board Association for professional development. I believe it's impor- tant to know the issues you'll be facing before you run for an elect- ed position. I also currently attend council meetings and have for many years. I understand the role and re- sponsibility as well as the limita- tions of a council member. 5. For the past 5 years, I have pro- moted Quartzsite as a destination lo- cation at the International Off-Road Expo. I participated in the Quartzsite Community Expo, and the Round- table for Quartzsite Organizations. I attend most events at the Elemen- tary School, and was able to bring trauma training to our school staff to benefit Quartzsite students. I am currently working on legislation that would change the funding structure for all small schools in Arizona. 6. I feel the most important is- sue we are facing is the growth of Quartzsite. I see this as a two pronged issue. The first is tourism. We need to continue to promote Quartzsite to visitors, but not just during the winter. We have many beautiful outdoors trails that could be used in the spring and fall. Pro- moting Quartzsite in a manner that attracts visitors outside of the typical season would help our local business. The second piece is eco- nomic development. As Quartzsite works to attract new business, it will create jobs and allow for addi- tional resources. That involves out- reach to attract the companies and services that are the best fit for our community. CANDIDATES FROM PAGE 12 7. I will be there. I will continue to attend local meetings, town func- tions and events. I'll listen. If you have a concern or a suggestion, I'll hear you out. I'll use my resources and connections, both local and state wide. I'm not afraid to reach out for help or for ideas. I also know how to research state and federal law, and town code. Most impor- tantly, I know how to put aside things that are personal in order to make the decisions that are best for the community as a whole. That is why I'm asking for your vote. DENNIS VOSPER 2-Yr Council Seat Town of Quartzsite 3. www.vosper4council.com 4. I'm not a professional/career politician, but like many of you I am concerned for the future of our Town, our State, and our Country, and have watched the "profession- als" for years lead us in a direction that has brought us to where we are today. I am a principled Constitutional- ist who believes the sworn duty of every elected representative is to first hold to the self-evident truths that "all men [and women] are cre- ated equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain un- alienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness-that to secure these Rights, Governments are institut- ed among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed…" and from this founda- tion, with your consent, and from this foundation perform the sworn duties of the office of 2-yr Council member in the Town of Quartzsite. 5. I'm the contracted General Man- ager for both local Quartzsite radio stations, KBUX-FM and KCNL-FM, and in that capacity I have provided numerous and ongoing Public Ser- vice Announcements (PSA's) for is- sues and events related specifically to the Town of Quartzsite and her citizens. In this position I also ar- ranged for widespread radio pro- motion (at no cost) for the Town's "Buck Connors Days," the 2019, 4th of July party in the park with fireworks, plus ongoing announce- ment promoting events and com- munity news. I also arranged the sponsorship of the Freedom Rid- ers Christmas Toy Ride, providing toys for less fortunate children in our region, as well as sponsorship of the 2020 Rose and Gary Frazier Memorial Golf Tournament here in Quartzsite. To further promote Quartzsite, I encouraged the owner to use "Q1059" for the new Classic Rock radio station… Q for Quartz- ite… and the daily weather reports specifically and intentionally have Quartzsite presented positively. 6. There are many important public issues and each should re- ceive proper attention. Some of the key issues I see are identifying and correcting the negative impacts of socialistic principles in our gover- nance, protecting private property rights, reducing and limiting gov- ernment power, lowering taxes, making Quartzsite more family friendly, protecting senior rights, and working towards attracting more business to our Town. The remedy for these issues is a return to Constitutional governance and true free market economic principles. 7. If you choose to elect me for the position of 2-year Council position, you will have an elected representa- tive that takes to heart the mandate we see in the Declaration of Inde- pendence for ALL elected officials, to see all people as "created equal [and] are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness-that to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed…." My wife, Shemariah, and I have 5 children, ages 12 to 20, and we all call Quartzsite home. We are well vested and want to see Quartzsite grow and thrive moving into the fu- ture. I look forward to representing you well on our Town Council. DEADLINE : WED.
