Delta Gamma at the University of Iowa Spring 2020 A s many of you know, Iowa, along with universities across the nation, has suspended all in-person classes for the remainder of the semester and moved all courses online to limit and slow the spread of COVID-19. With that said, the Tau Chapter house will be closed for the rest of the spring 2020 semester. University employees will still be compensated during this time, but I do anticipate a financial responsibility break for live-in advisors. We don't know how this will all unfold and don't have concrete details to share at this time. KEEPING TAU IN TOP SHAPE We do, however, have a cause for celebration for the Tau House Corporation, which earned an Excellence in Operations Award from Delta Gamma Office of Housing in 2019. This recognition is largely in thanks to the loyal alumnae who donated to our capital campaign. Cosmetic updates coming to the house this summer include repainting the dining room as well as bedrooms and more landscaping. HOUSE CORPORATION POSITIONS AVAILABLE Want to join the HCB? We're always looking for new members! If you live in the Iowa City area and are interested in joining, please contact me for more information or to share other ideas to sustain our sisterhood. The commitment is minimal, meeting twice each semester. Now more than ever we need to stay connected to our Tau sisters and stay anchored to Delta Gamma. Tau Alumna Recognized for Outstanding Service Honoring Veteran Dr. Kathleen "Kitty" Coen Buckwalter '68 I n November 2020, Dr. Kathleen "Kitty" Coen Buckwalter '68 was honored with a Hawkeye Distinguished Veterans Award. Criteria for the Hawkeye Distinguished Veterans Award include a strong university connection, having served honorably, military accomplishment, and service to the community. Kitty served two tours of duty in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps during the Vietnam War. Her impressive career has culminated into a professor emerita position in the College of Nursing. Devoting more than three decades of service to UI, Kitty is known for her research in geropsychiatric nursing and long-term care. Additionally, in 2019 the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs and Gov. Kim Reynolds recognized the 50th anniversary of Kitty's service in the Navy Nurse Corps.
