24 | May 2020 You play a very important part in our ability to fight the spread of COVID-19. Staying at home, practicing social distancing and staying vigilant about handwashing are the best ways to prevent further transmission of the virus. We know it's a sacrifice, and we are very appreciative of your cooperation. Your efforts have ensured that our hospital has not become overwhelmed like so many we have seen on the nightly news. Our hospitals have the staff and capacity to take care of your healthcare needs. While we no longer need the tents in front of the Cape Fear Valley Emergency Department, we have not dropped our level of vigilance. Every person entering our Emergency Department is screened for respiratory illnesses and fever. Every staff member wears a mask, gown and gloves to keep both patients and staff safe. We have separate nursing units where COVID patients receive the special care they need. This keeps our staff and patients admitted for heart attack, stroke, surgery and other diagnoses separate from COVID patients. Patients can schedule telephone or video visits at most of our primary care and specialty practices. Chronic conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney disease, can put patients at higher risk of complications from COVID-19. That's why it's more important than ever to not skip visits with your doctor. And if you're not feeling well, your primary care provider is the first person you should call. It's also important to keep children's well check-ups and immunizations on schedule. Experts report that parents nationwide are postponing immunizations, putting millions of children at risk for measles, whooping cough and other life-threatening illnesses. Although COVID-19 has made many changes in our lives, it has not changed Cape Fear Valley Health's commitment to serving our community. Especially in these trying times, when you need us … we're right here. Mike Nagowski CEO, Cape Fear Valley Health A Letter To Our Friends in the Cape Fear Region when you need us... we're right here.
