PI DEUTERON CHAPTER OF PHI GAMMA DELTA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS • SPRING 2020 T he Phi Gamma Delta House Corporation recently conducted our spring meeting, and despite the unprecedented events that have developed in the last 4-5 weeks with COVID-19, this is the most encouraged I have felt about the future of Pi Deuteron since I joined the board 10 years ago. Our Undergraduate Brothers, under the guidance of Chapter leadership, are doing outstanding work to improve the Chapter. The active Chapter moved up seven spots in grades, improving to sixth overall on The Hill with a 3.27 GPA, barely missing the fifth-place spot. Hats off to the undergraduate brothers for putting a major emphasis on improving grades. Additionally, the Stewart and John Horejsi scholarship endowment, which they established several years ago, has proven to be a big help with recruitment and a wonderful incentive for undergraduate brothers to focus on academics. We look forward to providing all we can to help our Undergraduate Brothers achieve academic success. Pi Deuteron was paired with the women of Sigma Kappa for this year's Rock Chalk Revue on February 27 th . We took home two trophies: Best Comedic Performance, thanks to former Chapter President Sam Stapp '21, and Best Interpretation of Theme. Congratulations to our Undergraduate Brothers for putting on a great show! The House Corporation recently approved new three-year room contracts with the incoming freshman class. Previously, we implemented two-year contracts. Our goal in extending contracts is to retain juniors in the house to allow for a smaller new member class. With a smaller class, our recruitment chairmen can be more selective when it comes to academic standing in potential new members. As I write this, most, if not all of us, are sheltering in place and working remotely. Colleges and universities, including KU, have converted to online class formats for the remainder of the spring semester. The House Corporation made the decision to close the Chapter House during the week of spring break. It remained open long enough for brothers to gather essential belongings as they returned from spring break, and closed officially on March 16 th . At the time, it seemed like a difficult decision. In retrospect, it was a "no-brainer." Refunds have been issued for approximately 35% of spring semester house dues. As a result, our plans to replace the windows on the east and north sides of the house this summer have been postponed. I am pleased to report, however, that House Corporation still has adequate reserves and remains solid financially. As always, please contact our recruitment chairmen with any recommendations, and keep the legacies coming! Our Brotherhood is continually growing and improving thanks to the hard work and dedication of active Chapter leadership, the House Corporation, and our generous donors and volunteers. If you would like to get involved with the Chapter, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
