Pollack in 2018 (tinyurl. com/vxsjasa) and 2019 (tinyurl. com/t2txl49), especially regarding recruitment policies, mandatory educational training requirements, training of sober monitors, and required live-in adult advisors for all chapters. In addition, leadership positions in residential Greek organizations must be held by junior or senior students who reside in the Chapter House. Given the amenities in new dorms on campus and greater pressure from Collegetown landlords to sign leases a year in advance, it can sometimes be a challenge to attract upperclasswomen to live in the Chapter House. How different from the 1970s when demand was so high that we had a lottery for juniors and seniors who wanted to live in. Those of us who resided at 118 Triphammer as collegians know how incredibly fortunate we were. We had to learn how to get along with all different kinds of personalities, problem solve, and be creative together. Especially as officers, we learned to make compromises and forge coalitions. There was always somebody at the Chapter House to talk with, laugh with, cry with, sing with, study with, and even share cinnamon toast with! "While it may be cool to live in an apartment, the student has to take on the responsibility of taking care of their apartment—cleaning, paying bills, grocery shopping, cooking, washing dishes," Cathy Chang Ko '76 said. "Who needs the work? The meals at Tri Delta are excellent with our terrific chef." Katherine Stifel '85 added, "We all grew up together at Cornell. We learned about nonprofit governance and accountability, as well as academics. We made lifelong friendships and shared the high points and low points of our Cornell experience." We invite you to send us your special memories of living in the Chapter House that we may share them with our collegiate sisters and include them in future newsletters. How did your live-in experience affect you in later career or personal moments? What lifelong lessons did you learn? Please send your special memories to Carol Benson Antos '77 at carolantos@gmail. com or or Debbie Lathrop Lechner '77 at debbie.lechner@gmail.com. Why Live In? Share Your Favorite Memories of 118 Triphammer
