ork on designs for chapter house renovations are full speed
ahead with floor plans taking shape. Brother Keith Brandau
'83 has generously donated his time for structural engineering
and analysis of opening up walls and adding on to the north side of the
house. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems are being incorporat-
ed into the plans. This includes full air conditioning with individual room
controls––a far cry from the steam radiators currently in use!
We are submitting a zoning variance request for the City of Champaign to
approve the north addition that will house an ADA code-compliant egress
stair and a lift for accessibility. Preliminary feedback from the City has
been positive. They appreciate our desire to update and modernize our
chapter house.
We are in discussions with three general contractors in the Urbana-Cham-
paign area and intend to select one soon. The contractor will help finalize
project costs and schedules. Construction activities are scheduled to begin
this summer starting with demolition and prep work. We will keep you
updated on construction milestones throughout the process.
As we draw closer to the start of construction, it is important that we all
consider doing our part to help by making a pledge to the capital campaign.
Please think about what you are willing to contribute to help, if you have
not done so. If you have made a pledge, please follow through in a timely
manner. As soon as work begins, we will start paying contractors monthly,
so cash flow will be crucial to keep work progressing as planned.
There is no time to wait. The future is now!
