page 5 Our Plan for Alpha Sigma T he Alpha Sigma Chapter has a dedicated scholarship fund through the Theta Xi Foundation that has been in place and growing since 2006 with the aim of providing financial assistance to qualified brothers. GOAL: $500,000 Scholarship Endowment • At 5% payout = $25,000 awarded annually to undergraduate brothers IMPACT: Past scholarship recipients have indicated these funds allowed them to • Quit a part-time job to pursue a leadership opportunity in the fraternity and on-campus. • Buy textbooks and equipment necessary for their major. • Go on a study abroad trip, traveling internationally for the first time. • Graduate with less student loan debt. T he Alpha Sigma Association, alumni volunteers and undergraduate leadership have developed a plan to address the long- term viability of the Theta Xi experience at Bradley University. Through careful study, assessment, and planning, it has been determined that growing our scholarship endowment to provide financial assistance to brothers and renovating parts of our chapter facility are necessary to ensure the future of Alpha Sigma. O ur intention is to borrow $250,000 (15-year mortgage) from the Theta Xi Foundation at a fair market rate to complete renovations on the chapter facility. This will allow the Alpha Sigma Association to have a lender who understands the fraternity's needs and also pay themselves back over time. STRUCTURAL • New roof • Updated plumbing and electrical throughout the house • 4 new furnaces REMODEL • Industrial Kitchen - to provide catering service or chef and brothers to eat meals together regularly • Chapter Room/Club Xi - fix drop ceiling and ensure it looks more aesthetically pleasing • Alumni Room/Scholarship Room • Front and Rear Foyers - security and energy efficiencies • Bathroom/Shower - update • Individual Rooms - update to fit modern student needs Interest on a loan will be paying back ourselves, not a bank. Members pay rent. Rent is used to pay off the mortgage. The mortgage holder, Theta Xi Foundation, turns around and sends the interest paid back in the form of scholarships. • The interest rate on the mortgage exceeds current bond investment yields and will have both a $2 million property as collateral and Bradley University as co-signor. The likely result will be a better investment performance for the Foundation than a traditional 50/50 stock/bond portfolio. After the mortgage is paid, current scholarship account total, plus campaign funds, plus interest should have the endowment total over $1 million. • The scholarship money will help cover our entire budget, allowing the Alumni Association to complete repairs annually.
