WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM JANUARY 22-28, 2020 UCW 27 WEEKLY HOROSCOPE NEWS OF THE WEIRD by the Editors at Andrews McMeel Syndication The way the world works Kari and Dustin Drees bought their first home In Atlanta's Buck- head district in December and shortly thereafter left on vaca- tion to visit family. While they were gone, an alarm went off, and friends reported nothing was amiss, but when the Dreeses re- turned home, they discovered an uninvited visitor had moved in: a squirrel. The animal had appar- ently fallen down the chimney and become trapped inside, where it did a lot of damage — defecat- ing, scratching floors, chewing baseboards and building a nest in the couch. No worries, the couple thought: "This is why you have homeowner's insurance," Kari told the Associated Press. Not so fast: The couple's insurance "explicitly stated" it doesn't cover damage done by rodents, and a squirrel is a rodent. Small comfort: The com- pany did offer to provide housing for the couple for up to two weeks. You can't make this up Odis Latham, 47, and Russell Sparks, 48, of Columbus, Missis- sippi, were arrested on Jan. 6 after they allegedly hatched a cockama- mie scheme to "win" the lottery, WLBT reported. The two arrived at the Mississippi Lottery Corp. in Flowood and presented a losing $100,000 ticket upon which they had glued the winning numbers, according to authorities. Flowood police arrested the pair, who were charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and uttering a counterfeit instrument over $1,000. They were held without bond. Oops! Mike Parrish of Woodfin, North Carolina, is making fantasy a re- ality with a "Lord of the Rings" hobbit home he's building to offer on Airbnb. "I'm not just a casual fan. I'm a huge fan," Parrish said as he guided WLOS through the 800-square-foot "Unexpected Jour- ney," built 90% underground with one bedroom, one bathroom, a kitchen and round doorways craft- ed by local woodworker John Fen- wick. "What we want is to just have an area where people can come and bring their kids and just leave with an unforgettable experience," Parrish said. The home should be ready to rent in February or March; Parrish and his wife have not set a per-night rate yet. Question: What is the deal with all the FX on Hulu shows that I have been seeing lately in TV Guide Magazine? Why don't they just have these shows on FX? It has been a long time since I've seen any good new shows on FX. — Gary Matt Roush: e confusion over this probably intensified after an "FX on Hulu" ad aired during the Golden Globes on Jan. 5, but here's the situation. When FX became one of the networks acquired by Disney in its takeover of the Fox stu- dio, the decision was made to align its brand more closely with Hulu, which will become the official — and to a large extent exclusive — streaming home for FX Networks. Most of FX's distinguished library will be available on Hulu, and ongoing series will be available for streaming after they air on FX, but what was less expected was the announce- ment that several series developed for FX will now be exclusive to Hulu under the "FX on Hulu" banner. ese shows include the Cate Blanchett miniseries "Mrs. America," Alex Garland's "Devs," Jeff Bridges in "e Old Man" and a con- troversial romantic drama "A Teacher," starring Kate Mara. ankfully, the FX show I'm most looking forward to this year — a new season of "Fargo," starring Chris Rock — will still premiere on the original network, while being available for streaming on Hulu. is is the wave of the future. We cannot stop singing the praises of the "Suburgatory" grad. She is an end- less loop of charm as tech firm coder Zoey Clarke, who becomes a human iTunes after a bungled MRI on NBC's am- bitious new musical dramedy. Jeers to "Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector" for its way-too-extra title. First, it's a hashtag nightmare, so good luck, Twitter. And second, NBC's unwieldy renaming of Jeffery Deaver's novel "e Bone Collector" and the 1999 film distracts from how good star Russell Hornsby is in the role of the quadriplegic forensics expert originally played by Denzel Washington.
