I just love the stretching, flexibility, core, stamina and balance benefits of a barre class, and I believe that it a very important benefit in the way we function in everyday life. I traveled to train for an advanced barre class and, six months later, I became a barre instructor at e Spa Fitness Center. e seniors in my barre classes are amazing, I call them my rock stars. Some of the participants in my barre class are seniors who range in age from 50 to 80. ey pump out the balance, stamina, flexibility, core and stretching like participants half their age! One of my gym friends runs half marathons and has won medals. I love hearing the stories of my participants, and there are many. Participants are proud of their progress and share that they can touch their toes, have lost weight, have improved their balance and have less pain. Exercise has made such a difference in the way I feel. e confidence and benefits are apparent in the class! Personal stories are inspiring to me for the participants who have decided to start a regimen and make a commitment to coming to class. A start is a beginning; a habit becomes a lifestyle. As for that man who called me a hag, Sir, you did me a favor! Hag this, Mister: Live, Love, Life … Seniors rock! Cynthia Ross currently teaches barre classes at e Spa Fitness Center. She instructs e Fayetteville Technical College Trojans baseball team in stretching, flexibility and core-strengthening. She substitutes for cycle and glute and core classes and is continuing her education in the fitness industry.
