Stewart-Smith has been an educator for over 25 years and taught at the elementary, high school, and college levels. As a former Army offi cer and historian, she is inter- ested in women's contributions to the military, particularly those who served as military aviators. The Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of WWII During World War II over one thousand women served as Wom- en Airforce Service Pilots (WASP), freeing male pilots for combat roles at a critical time during the war. The WASP ferried planes from factories to embarkation points; performed engineer test fl ying of repaired aircraft and did target tow- ing for gunnery training. By the spring of 1944, every P-51 Mustang fl own in combat had already been fl own by a WASP. This presentation shares their stories as fl iers, patri- ots, and women who had to fi ght for the right to be called veterans. Don't forget to enter our motto contest for the sundial, due by Feb- ruary 29! Our fi eld trips are on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, and are free to members and $3 for non- members. Please call the Museum if you are interested in helping with that activity or volunteering for a wide variety of needs to help keep the Museum a viable and fun place. When we are lucky enough to have a booth donated to us by the orga- nizers, we are committing to keep it open every day of the tent. We spend each day sharing information about Quartzsite and encouraging folks to come see the Museum. We also sell a few special books about the Quartzsite area in the booth, so please come visit us!! Check with the Food Bank, the last we heard they were able to process them. Membership of $10 for a year is encouraged.
