WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM JANUARY 8-14, 2020 UCW 27 WEEKLY HOROSCOPE NEWS OF THE WEIRD by the Editors at Andrews McMeel Syndication Editor's note: Enjoy some of our favorite items from 2019. People different from us Asparagus is healthy and delicious. But for 63-year-old Jemima Packing- ton of Bath, England, the columnar vegetable is much more: Packington is an asparamancer, a person who can foretell the future by tossing the spears into the air and seeing how they land. "When I cast the asparagus, it creates patterns, and it is the pat- terns I interpret," Packington said. "I am usually about 75 to 90% accurate." In fact, out of 13 predictions she made for 2018, 10 of them came true. What's in store for 2019? Packington tells Metro News that England's women's soccer team will win the World Cup; "A Star Is Born" will win an Oscar; and fears over Brexit will be largely un- founded. Oh, and asparagus will see an all-time high in sales. The high price of vanity A "vampire facial" is a procedure during which blood is drawn with a needle and then "spun" to separate the plasma, which is then injected into the face. For customers of a spa in Albuquerque, New Mexico, though, the most lasting effects may come after a blood test. The state's Depart- ment of Health is urging customers of VIP Spa, which closed in September 2018, to undergo HIV testing after two people were infected following treatment there. Dr. Dean Bair of the Bair Medical Spa said people should always make sure they're going to a licensed facility for such procedures. "This is just the worst example of what can go wrong," he told KOAT. The spa closed after inspectors found its prac- tices could potentially spread blood- borne infections, including hepatitis B and C as well as HIV. It's come to this The Pokemon Co. has made Japanese brides' dreams come true with its announcement that it is col- laborating with a wedding planner to offer sanctioned ceremonies with its characters in attendance, dressed as a bride and groom. Yes, Pikachu will stand up with you and your betrothed —as long as you go to Japan to tie the knot — and the icing on the cake is Pokemon-themed food items and a Pikachu cake topper. Finally, United Press International reports, for your scrapbook, you'll have a marriage certificate decorated with Pokemon imagery — surely an item you'll want to preserve in a licensed Pokemon photo frame. Question: I've just finished watching the final episode on Fox of "e Moodys Christmas" limited series with Denis Leary. at thing is a real hoot! Funniest sitcom I've seen in a long time. Is there any chance that show will be picked up and continue with the same format, same ac- tors — by any cable company? —Virginia Matt Roush: Glad you enjoyed "e Moodys," even though that TV family, which also included Elizabeth Perkins and Jay Baruchel, didn't seem to be en- joying their holiday much throughout the six episodes. ere is a remote pos- sibility you could see the family again in another limited format, built around another family gathering at a differ- ent holiday time. "A Moodys Easter" or "Fourth of July"? But it seems a long shot, because the limited-series format was always something of a risk for Fox, and neither the reviews nor the ratings made this look much like a hit fran- chise. Part of the problem was that this seemed to have come out of nowhere and didn't fit in with any of Fox's regular programming, and double-running episodes on three nights, not all of them consecutive, presented another sched- uling hurdle. If Fox does order more — I can't imagine anyone else stepping up, though these days you never know — we'll be sure and report it. To submit questions to TV Critic Matt Roush, go to: tvinsider.com. By Damian Holbrook Cheers to "e Morning Show" for getting its act together. After a scat- tered first season — with a WTF musi- cal bit — Apple TV+'s glossy drama delivered a nerve-shredding, perfectly paced finale that saw feuding news anchors Alex and Bradley (Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon) uniting on-air to take down the toxic men at the top. Jeers to "e Screen Actors Guild Awards" for snubbing "Succession" after it thrilled us with the bravest second season ever. Ignoring HBO's sharp satire and the insanely gifted ensemble of Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin and Brian Cox as a Machiavellian media family? Maybe SAG should be renamed SAD.
