Prepare to enter the fast-growing mental health counseling field and help others transform their lives. Mental health counseling is one of the fastest-growing fields in the US—with 20 percent growth over this decade—according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, particularly in the areas of substance abuse, behavioral disorders, mental health, and grief counseling. ■ Pace University's MS in Mental Health Counseling (60 credits) program allows you to take advantage of this trend, by training you for jobs in professional settings such as mental health counseling facilities, hospitals, private practice, and intervention facilities. ■ Our program provides a strong foundation in clinical counseling, plus specialized knowledge in ground-breaking research areas such as positive psychology and psychotherapy, and resiliency. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on skills development through role-playing and group exercise, interview techniques, research methods, and internships, and students gain an understanding of the many different approaches to contemporary counseling, including group and individual therapy, as well as substance abuse, trauma, and loss counseling. ■ Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs The MS in Mental Health Counseling program meets the standards established by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Office of the Professions and is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The rigorous CACREP approval process includes a self-study evaluation and on-site review conducted by expert counseling peers, and both the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Defense have made graduation from a CACREP accredited program a requirement for certain professional opportunities. Students who complete the 60-credit program with distinction are welcome to apply to our PhD in Mental Health Counseling program.
