November 20, 2019 www.DesertMessenger.com 5 Operation Hero Comfort Silent Auction Dec. 14 The Silent Auction will be held on Saturday Dec 14th from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm in the Main Hall at Quartzsite Improvement Assoc. (QIA) The Soup and Chowder will also be at QIA from noon until the soup runs out. We will have many items at the auction donated by businesses, vendors and individual people. We always have a wonder- ful selection and this is a great way to get a Christmas gifts or some- thing for yourself. All money raised will help cover the cost of postage, which is currently $18.45 per box, or to purchase items requested that are not donated. Come over and bid on the items you want, go enjoy soup and chowder and re- turn to see if you need to up your bid. If you can't stay until 4:00 pm that is okay, if you are the winning bid we will call you. We will have a display of cards, letters, certifi cates and fl ags that we have received back from units. We will have Christmas cards to send to the troops for you to sign. If you have items you would like to donate to the auction you can drop them off at the offi ce of the apartments, Readers Oasis book- store, or call Anita at 763 639-9330 and I will gladly pick them up. We will also have a box/bin for you to donate items for the care packages at the auction. Looking forward to seeing you there. Thanksgiving and Christmas holi- days are coming up and we will need help with donations to make the Family Holiday Baskets. If you have groceries to donate please drop off at the Food Bank Tuesday and Thursday, 8am – noon. You can also drop off at the Dollar Gen- eral, Road Runner Market, Coyote Foods, Horizon Bank, or the VFW. You can help by putting a box in your RV Park, business or organi- zation to collect groceries. Upcoming Fundraisers for the Food Bank: Farmers Market vendor fees all go to the Food Bank. While there, buy your raffl e ticket for a $100 Pilot Gas Card for only $1 per ticket. 960 W Main Thursday – Saturday. Santa's Workshop Art & Craft Fes- tival will be Saturday Nov 30th & Sunday Dec 1st at Tyson Wells. Call 360-635-1367 for vendor info. Soup & Chowder Contest Fund- raiser will be Dec 14. Call 603-834- 0647 for info to enter a soup into the contest or a dessert. The Food Bank served 773 people in October, 12% are disabled, 6% are Veterans, 50% are over the age of 50, and 109 children. The Food Bank has been expanding services for families in many differ- ent ways. Now families can come in on Sunday's from 1-3pm and pick up their food boxes. This gives par- ents who are working during regu- lar hours a better chance to get the food they need for their family. Carol's Chalkboard, which is part of the food bank's services, is an edu- cational resource center. It's going on its second season serving both public and home-schooled youth in the area grades pre-K through 8th grades. Food Bank clients can come by for curriculum packets, school supplies, and educational informa- tion. The Chalkboard hosts monthly fi eld trips, guest speakers, science labs, and more. There is also a new chil- dren's community garden for those families participating in the pro- gram. Carol's Chalkboard is donation based. Thank you to everyone who has dropped off donations such as school supplies, art supplies, shoes, books, and recyclables.
