Notes of e Lyre PHI CHAPTER OF ALPHA CHI OMEGA | UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS | FALL 2019 A nother fall semester has begun in Lawrence at the University of Kansas. Classes and KU football have kicked off in full force. With the new coach, Les Miles, KU alumnae are hopeful for our team to begin the road to a bowl (maybe not this year but in the next year or two!). Though I must mention women's soccer, volleyball, golf, and cross country are some teams faring better than others. Again, I am hopeful these college athletes will continue striving to do their best. SISTERHOOD GAINS STRENGTH IN NUMBERS Phi Chapter had a wonderful start to the fall semester with a fantastic recruitment week. We now have a total of 237 undergraduate members, and we are growing. It is amazing how our chapter continues gaining strength in the KU community and in Northeast Kansas. The ladies are working with Pi Kappa Phi to present an amazing Rock Chalk Revue show and are hopeful to be selected to preform for a third year in a row. We also have chapter members volunteering at Safehome, the only domestic violence shelter in Johnson County. Alumna Carrie Emert '94 recently started her position as their director of development, which you can learn more about on page 2, and our Phi members continue their philanthropic work with this great organization. PHI CHAPTER ENRICHES LIVES Despite many changes over the past few years, our chapter has grown in size and in strength. We still value the qualities that were present when AΧΩ was started. Phi Chapter members are Real. Strong. Women. who represent the best of what women can bring to their community. The house corporation board (HCB) strives to help them live in an environment that can foster that growth. When they graduate and leave KU, they will make an impact in their community, state, or even country. ALUMNAE SUPPORT KEY TO CHAPTER'S SUCCESS Phi Chapter is like any home and is always in need of updates and repairs. The HCB continues to make the necessary improvements to provide Phi members a warm, safe, and loving home away from home. Some of our members have moved many miles away to come to KU, and it is extremely important to make them feel welcome and a part of a family. Donations from alumnae allow us to make necessary repairs and updates as needed. Some updates we are discussing include redecorating the guest bedroom and new flooring for the members' living quarters. Our alumnae are marvelous women, and I want our undergraduate members to believe they are also capable of amazing feats. I am hopeful for our chapter's successful future and grateful for the ladies who make our chapter great: past, present, and future. Loyally, Stephanie Spratt Schmidt '93 President, House Corporation sportsgirl292004@yahoo.com Alumnae and House Corporation Team Up with Undergraduates to Seek the Heights SISTERS FOCUS ON PHILANTHROPY, CHAPTER HOUSE UPDATES IN THE WORKS Members of the sophomore class on preference day of recruitment. Sisters further Alpha Chi's commitment to ending domestic violence through volunteering at Safehome, the only domestic violence shelter in Johnson County.
