Jim Prentice '56 has done a lot of volunteer
work since retiring 17 years ago from a
40-year career of practicing medicine. He
serves as the president of The University
of Texas (System) Foundation and is the
immediate past-treasurer of the Texas
Medical Association Foundation. He served
on the St. David's Foundation Board for
16 years. The St. David's Foundation
gives almost $100 million annually for
health-related activities in the central Texas
area. The arts are another one of Jim's
passions. He was on the founding board of
the Umlauf Sculpture Garden, the longest
serving member of the Paramount Theatre
Board, and a 36-year member of the Austin
Symphony Board. He hopes his three
grandsons will someday be KAs, as are
his son and nephew. The retirement years
have allowed Jim time to reconnect with
KA brothers and fellow Texas Cowboys he
hasn't seen in years. He enjoyed spending
time and traveling to all seven continents
with his wonderful wife of 52 years and
retired pediatrician. Jim resides in Austin,

serving as president of the American
Association of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgeons. The AAOMS represents over
8,000 oral surgeons in the United States.
