Sadly we have to report that K-9 Wodan is retired, due to medical con- ditions, We would like to thank K-9 Wodan for his four years of service to the Town of Quartzsite. Wodan was a great ambassador for the Po- lice Department and the Town." Wodan has been retired since the end of August, Wodan was diag- nosed with Osteoarthritis which is found in the hip. Osteoarthritis is a condition in which the protective cartilage that cushions the tops of bones degenerates or wears down. This causes swelling and pain as well as loss of coordination of the hind legs, which has no known cure. As is standard practice with the re- tirement of police dogs, Wodan will live out his retirement years where he'll lead a quiet life as a family pet. Wodan was given to the FETCH Foundation who pairs this type of service animal with a Military Vet- eran or Law Enforcement Offi cer. Wodan was originally donated from Adlerhorst International Kennel's out of California. In 2015, Wodan joined the department and began his career. Wodan, fi rst had to complete 12 weeks of training where he was certifi ed through the National As- sociation of Professional Canine Handlers. Like McGruff the Crime Dog, Wodan helped to "take a bite out of crime" in several ways. Deadline Coming Up for Taxpayers Who Received Tax Year 2018 Filing Extension Individual income and corporate taxpayers that received a calendar year tax fi ling extension, and have not yet fi led, have until Tuesday, October 15 to submit their tax returns. More than 200,000 individuals and 50,000 corporations received a six-month extension for calendar year returns from the Arizona De- partment of Revenue (ADOR). For tax year 2018, more than 3.4 million individual income and over 200,000 corporate income tax returns were fi led with the depart- ment. ADOR advises individual income taxpayers to double-check their tax returns to ensure there is no missing information and recom- mends fi ling electronically, which is more secure and faster than paper returns. For tax year 2018, 83 percent of individual income tax returns in Arizona were e-fi led. During the recent tax fi ling season, refunds from e-fi led returns took an aver- age of eight days to process, com- pared to an average of 23 days for paper returns. Corporate e-fi ling to go into ef- fect in 2020. Starting in January 2020, e-fi ling will be available to corporate taxpayers fi ling income tax returns with the Department of Revenue. The e-fi le solution will also include partnership tax re- turns. Corporate e-fi ling will provide Arizona businesses an easier and more convenient way of fi ling their tax returns, reducing the time and amount of paper needed to submit complex and lengthy returns. Check out the Arizona Department of Revenue's website at www.azdor. gov for information.
