5 Alpha Chi Omega A lpha Nu members continue to Seek the Heights in terms of academic achievements. The chapter's grade point average for spring 2019 semester was 3.40. More than 70 percent of our members were recognized on the Dean's List and an impressive 24 women achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA. We even had four sisters apply to Mizzou's renowned Sinclair School of Nursing; all were admitted! DEDICATED TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENCESS Our members are extremely passionate about our philanthropy. During the spring semester, we hosted the second annual Swishin' for a Mission event where we rented the campus recreation complex and hosted a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. More than 20 teams competed for the title of champion! We also orchestrated a variety of events for the annual These Hands Don't Hurt and Healthy Relationships weeks. A new event for the chapter is Denim Day, which is held to raise awareness for domestic violence. Denim Day is an annual event in 20 states. Wearing jeans on this day has become an international symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault. The origin of the day comes from a 1998 Italian Supreme Court ruling which overturned a rape conviction because the victim wore tight jeans. It was argued that the jeans were so tight that the only way to have gotten them off was if she had helped her attacker remove her jeans, thus making the act consensual. Thanks to our wonderful philanthropy committee and generous donations from alumnae, family, friends and the community we were able to raise $5,000 for our local beneficiary, True North. LEADING THE GREEK COMMUNITY For the second year in a row, our chapter won Mizzou's Rockin' Against Multiple Sclerosis (RAMS). We were active participants in Mizzou's Greek Week, paired with the men of Delta Chi. I am also excited to share that Alpha Nu received the Seeking the Heights, Chapter Relations and Standards Award from Alpha Chi Omega Headquarters for our commitment to ensuring the standards of Alpha Chi Omega are properly maintained. MAKING WAVES THIS SUMMER Over the summer, we had members study abroad in over a dozen countries, serve on medical brigades to Ghana and work incredible internships. Panhellenic executive board member Simone Esters '16 was even crowned Miss Missouri. We have so much to look forward to this fall and are excited to see where the semester takes us. On behalf of Alpha Nu, I would like to thank you for your continued love and support. Please visit our website at www.mizzouaxo.com for chapter updates and follow us on Instagram at alphachimizzou to see what our sisters are up to! As always, feel free to stop by the chapter house anytime. Nothing would make us happier than to share our experiences with you!
