Alpha Chi Omega at the University of Missouri • Fall 2019 Summer Never Slow at ΑΧΩ Chapter House Updates Ensure Comfort and Safety for Members (Continued on page 2) S ummers at 900 Richmond are always busy for the house corporation board and summer 2019 was no exception. Although we did not undertake any major construction projects, the summer work completed was important to the integrity of the structure, comfort of the chapter members and was in response to requests from the members. The board has made numerous outreach efforts to the chapter to ensure the members have a voice as it relates to the living experience in the chapter house. INSIDE OUR SUMMER UPDATES To ensure structural integrity, the east side of the chapter house was tuck pointed. During the 2018-19 school year, water leakage into the house became a major concern. As anyone who owns a home can attest, this is a necessary but laborious and expensive project. So that members would be more comfortable in the chapter house from a temperature perspective, we installed wireless thermostats in 20 bedrooms, hallways and the foyer. These wireless thermostats will allow for better temperature control in each of those areas. The central control system for these thermostats provides the ability to control room temperatures from a single source and allows for overall system monitoring and diagnosis of any issues with the units. To support chapter member requests, we painted the dining room and the TV room fireplace, replaced formal room sofa cushions and addressed a noise issue for the lower level study room. New artwork and accessories now grace the TV room. We also installed a front door buzzer for security. The buzzer will sound if the door is left open for a specified period of time. The time settings can be adjusted as necessary for the chapter activities, such as recruitment, move in and out, etc. RENOVATION PLANS As mentioned in the spring 2019 newsletter, the house corporation board and chapter members are exploring and working with the architect, contractor and bank on major architectural changes to the first floor of the chapter house and south bedroom areas. This renovation would include the kitchen, which has not been updated since 1988. It would also provide for an ADA compliant restroom, bedroom facilities and an elevator between floors. Summer updates to the chapter house included, but weren't limited to, the installation of wireless thermostats, new artwork and new formal room sofa cushions.
