P H I K A P PA TA U 4 Alpha Chi Works Together to Strengthen Brotherhood Through Academics and Recruitment T he spring semester was full of fun broth- erhood activities. From a brotherhood trip to a member's deer camp to intramurals, Alpha Chi had a packed calendar. With school back in session, we hope to have an even great- er fall semester. Quality Is Key for New Members We gave bids to six associate members, hosted four recruitment events, and received three early bids this summer. The chapter is now at 59 members, and we are hoping to recruit 30 members this fall. Recruitment Member Orien- tation Officer Matthew Stuart '16 is "looking forward to building a group of guys that we can hand the keys over to in a year or so and can build on all the hard work that we have put into this fraternity." Chapter House Maintenance We also accomplished many projects at the chapter house over the summer, including cleaning and painting rooms and hallways, up- dating bathrooms, and the huge undertaking of refurbishing the volleyball court. This served as a great opportunity for brotherhood bonding. New Academic Accountability System Scholarship Chairman Hayden Anderson '18 has set standards this semester to build on the chapter's academic success. Fourteen of our members were placed on the Dean's and President's lists for their efforts and 53% of members achieved a GPA of a 3.0 or higher. To keep every member accountable regarding their academics, we will implement a minimum GPA to attend social events to match other fraterni- ties' policies. Support for SeriousFun Our spring philanthropic event benefitting the SeriousFun Network, Phi Oreo, was hosted at the Phi Kappa Tau chapter house. We sold New Orleans-style beignets and raised more than $2,300 with the help of both active and associ- ate members. Campus and Community Involvement Alpha Chi also gave back through a few univer- sity-sponsored volunteering events during the Alpha Chi active and potential new members enjoy a Biloxi Shuckers game in Biloxi, Miss., at a recruitment event. spring semester. The first event was the MLK Jr. Day of Service, where the chapter picked up trash, raked, and bagged leaves at a local park. The second volunteering event was the Big Event, where every brother went to Camp Seminole, a Boy Scout camp, and cleaned up the trails to get it ready for the summer. Actives and Alumni Bond at Crawfish Boil The fourth annual alumni crawfish event took place on Saturday, March 23, at the chapter house. The food was cooked by Andrew Rigel '16 and his family. It was a huge success. After the event, alumni had the opportunity to sit with the active members in their baseball rig at the left-field lounge at Dudy Noble Field. Alumni were updated on chapter and university happen- ings, and the active members got to hear stories from the "good ole days." If you are in Starkville, please come by the house to visit with the brothers and associates. We look forward to another successful semes- ter filled with even more brotherhood, social events, and Bulldog football. Hail State!
