SEPTEMBER 6-8 Lafayette Birthday Celebration Various locations in Fayetteville The birthday of the Marquis de Lafay- ette, Fayetteville's namesake, will be celebrated through a series of events, ranging from lectures to performances to living history events to wine-tastings. Walk to End Alzheimer's Festival Park The 2-mile walk raises money for a great cause – furthering the care, sup- port and research efforts of the Alzhei- mer's Association. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m., there's a ceremony at 9:30 and the walk begins at 10. Event plan- ners hope to raise at least $115,000. For information, check bit.ly/2LYj69t. SEPTEMBER 7, 10 A.M. - 5 P.M. Festival of Yesteryear Arsenal Park At this year's event, a professional ac- tor will portray James Armistead Lafay- ette, an enslaved African American who served the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Also featured: cos- tumed re-enactors demonstrating as- pects of daily life, musical and artistic performances, hands-on activities for kids and more. Blind Boys of Alabama Givens Performing Arts Center This internationally recognized gospel group has toured for seven decades (with varying members) and won five Grammy Awards. SEPTEMBER 12 - NOVEMBER 9 12 Women, 12 Voices David McCune International Art Gallery The fall exhibit at the gallery on the campus of Methodist University will feature artworks by 12 women in a variety of media and forms, including paintings, glassware, pottery, ironwork, sculptures, cloth, jewelry and more. SEPTEMBER 13-15 Greek Festival Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church Dancing, arts and crafts, a marketplace, gyros, baklava. This is the 29th annual celebration of local Greek heritage and culture and it is family-friendly, fun and delicious.
