I
f you like live theater,
you're about to have lots
of options. Fall is the start
of the production season
for Fayetteville's lively and
diverse local theater scene. e city
is home to the Cape Fear Regional
eatre, the Gilbert eater and
the Sweet Tea Shakespeare theater
company. Other productions are
put on at venues like Fayetteville
State University, Methodist
University and the University of North Carolina at
Pembroke.
e next ten months will bring a variety of theatrical
offerings – everything from "Macbeth" to "Mamma Mia!"
You'll be able to see other individual works by the Bard – or
all 37 of them at once in "e Complete Works of William
Shakespeare (Abridged.)" e latter is a highly amusing
comic play that merges bits from all
of Shakespeare's plays.
ere are murder mysteries, the
story of a green ogre's quest and
the particular drama involved with
spelling bees. ere will also be
Peanuts. And Jelly. ough not at the
same time – or the same place.
Here's what to look and plan for.
ere will be lots of toe-tapping
this year at the Cape Fear Regional
eatre, the largest, oldest and
best-known of Fayetteville's three community theaters. Its
season includes four musicals. ere are also two murder
mystery (one is also a musical) and a comic drama.
• Sept. 12-Oct. 6: "Mamma Mia!" kicks off the season. As
many know from the movie version (and the sequel), this
rollicking romantic musical comedy is based on the songs
of ABBA.
