JUNE 30 Send your ads, stories, letters to the editor, events and news desertmessenger7@yahoo.com QUARTZSITE- For the past three years, the students of the elementary school in the little town of Desert Center, Calif. have been collecting food items and “pennies for postage” to help Op- eration Hero Comfort send packages to adopted troop units in Afghanistan and Iraq. The school has only 15 students from kindergarten through 8th grades, but these students, along with McGoo’s store in Desert Center, have collected hundreds of dollars for postage, and have fi lled many, many, boxes with items that have been sent over to the troops. The students have also been working very hard to write letters, draw pictures, and make special items with poems and words of encourage- ment that are sent along with their packages. These children in this small community have really taken this project to heart, and have done a fan- tastic job of helping Operation Hero Comfort make a life a little better for our men and women in combat. Great Western Tube Float June 5, Parker PARKER- The 33rd annual Great West- ern Tube Float will be Saturday, June 5. The theme this year is “Rockin’ the River”. The tube fl oat is a major fund- raiser for the Parker Area Chamber of Commerce. The event is sponsored by BlueWater Resort & Casino, an en- terprise of the Colorado River Indian Tribes. The event begins at Patria Flats day use area, which is located on Riverside Drive next to the La Paz County Boat- ing Safety Center. Registration is from 7 to 9 a.m. The fl oat ends at the BlueWater Re- sort & Casino’s beach. The tube fl oat is approximately eight-miles long. Please bring sun block, wear a hat and protect your skin. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Contact the Parker Area Chamber of Commerce for more information at (928) 669-2174. Food Bank needs donations The Quartzsite Food Bank is in serious need of donations. Drop off donations at Horizon Community Bank, Town Hall or the Food Bank (Tues/Thurs.).Even a few dollars will help, along with non- perishable food items. We, as team play- ers, can bring the best of who we are to each and every gathering we attend: town council meetings, events, festivals, rock/art shows, board meetings, RV gatherings, etc. Each of us has the res- posibility to bring our best self forward! We are, after all, all on the same team! Winning is a function of knowing what game you are playing; knowing the rules of the game and having a game plan. The primary purpose of playing the game is to end every day feeling fulfi lled. Let’s play with clarity, focus and strategy! Mayor Foster stated he has experience and council members have been sworn in as our democratically elected public offi cials. Using sports pattern language, the town council can be thought of as a team of coaches leading this town into the future. So, how can our “town coaches” lead are highlighted on the front page of this issue.
