shelby shopper & info - 704/484-1047 Page 16 - www.shelbyinfo.com Thursday, February 28-March 6, 2013 OUTDOOR CG NNECE N UTD TD ON ECTION O NECT ONNECTION O & N S H E L BY S H O & IN O OUTDOOR TRUTHS By Gary Miller Miller ill iller i r Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ Ive always been a country boy at heart and even though I longed to leave in my high school years, there was something that drew me back to the humble surGARY MILLER roundings of my country way of living. Its not always easy balancing this lifestyle with progress. It almost doesnt seem right to want a rustic log cabin with a microwave. I want cows and dogs but a big screen T.V. would be nice as well. And Im sure that even though my wife wants a clothes line in the back yard, she sure couldnt do without her heavy duty washer and dryer. I want a garden but Id sure rather plow it with a new John Deere rather than an old mule. One of the things that is especially troubling to me is the loss of much of our hunting land. Where there used to be deer and ducks, now there are malls and mansions. Where there used to be the sycamore and sassafras, now there are subdivisions. And its all in the name of progress. I think everyone ought to experience the joy and peace of country living. I just dont want them to enjoy it so much that they buy my hunting lease, build their retirement home, and turn my property into an animal sanctuary. But the fact is, I cant have it both ways. I cant fuss about my dirt road without knowing that pavement is going to bring people. And I cant fuss about not having city conveniences without having the city. Many churches today struggle with this same dilemma. They want people without progress. They want big buildings without big budgets. And they want sinners without sin. Theyve forgotten the invitation to come Just as I am, but instead have asked folks to come just as they would like to be, one day. Theyve forgotten that we are not to come to the Lord clean but we are to come to Him and let Him clean us up. Theyve forgotten that Jesus was a friend of sinners. So if you and I want others to experience our life in the Lord, remember that youre going to have to move over. Youre going to have to bring them in as they are. And you might just have to give them your parking space and your pew. gary@outdoortruths.org ~ www.outdoortruths.org CAMPERS/RVs CAMPERS/RVs WANT TO BUY: Pop-Up Cam NT Campers. WHITE BASS White bass, unlike their striped, large- and smallmouth cousins, dont just hit anything they can fit into their mouths. When the fight is over and the fish is caught, every bit of effort put into catching them is usually worth it. White bass are a school-based fish that isnt known to occupy a set depth of water. These fish are found throughout most of North America and are known as a topchoice for anglers due to their taste and general size between 2 to 3 pounds, some as high as 4 to 5 pounds. The fish spawn in late spring and early summer, right about the time that water temperatures begin to reach 60 degrees Use a 5- or 6-foot rod that is capable of handling medium to medium-heavy action. Spinnerbaits, spoons and crankbaits have all been known to have a high success rate with white bass.
