20 UCW MAY 15-21, 2019 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM CUMBERLAND e Cumberland County Animal Control Shelter is seeking foster families to provide temporary care for animals until they are ready for adoption. Although fosters are needed for all animals, there is a great need for kitten fosters. Anyone interested in becoming a foster must attend a Foster Orientation session. e sessions are held the third Saturday of each month at 2 p.m. at the Animal Shelter, 4704 Corporation Dr. e next one will be May 18. e Animal Control Foster Program is intended for pregnant and nursing cats and dogs, puppies and kittens that are orphaned or not old enough to be placed for adoption, as well as animals needing recovery time from a medical procedure or illness. e age and condition of the animals will determine how long they will stay in foster care. Some animals will also need special care such as bottle feeding or medication administration. Some fosters only need a few days in foster care, while others may be in care for several months. e only requirement to foster is you must be 18 years old, sign a liability waiver and attend the Foster Orientation session. Foster Homes Needed for Shelter Animals I f you know someone who has made significant contributions to agriculture, home economics, youth development or rural communities in Cumberland County, be sure to nominate them for the 2019 Cumberland County Agricultural Hall of Fame. Located in the Cumberland County Cooperative Extension office, membership in the Agricultural Hall of Fame has been awarded to individuals annually since 1989. Nomination forms are available by calling 910-321- 6405 or on the Cooperative Extension's website at cumberland.ces.ncsu.edu. Completed nomination forms with supporting documentation must be received by June 30 at 5 p.m. Late submissions will not be considered. e nominating committee will review all nomination forms and select a nominee to be submitted to the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners for consideration and selection into the Hall of Fame. e recipient will be honored in November during the annual Farm-City Week Celebration event. Agricultural Hall of Fame e Department of Public Health's Baby Store will reopen May 21. Located at the Public Health Center at 1235 Ramsey St., Fayetteville, the Baby Store is an incentive-based, prenatal health promotion program that aims to create healthy moms and healthy babies. Health Department clients can earn "Baby Bucks" by attending their prenatal care appointments and participating in health education class such as childbirth and parenting classes. e Baby Store will be open Tuesday through ursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Foster/Adoption Information Sessions 3rd Thursday of the month 12 p.m. & 6:30 p.m. Cumberland County DSS 1225 Ramsey St. (910) 677-2541 National Foster Care Month Grand Reopening of the Baby Store e Department of Social Services needs foster parents to provide temporary living arrangements for children who must be removed from their home for their own safety and protection. To become a foster parent you must be at least 21 years old, be financially stable and have adequate space in the home. Foster parents do not have to be married and do not have to own a home.
