Keeping in Touch
After graduating from Mizzou, Deborah lived and
worked in Germany, where she met Leon. They
have lived in Maryland since 1973, so opportunities
to visit with Alpha Deltas have been limited. Of
course, she regularly keeps in touch with her sister
Denise Bartels Rivlin '72 and has found reunion
opportunities with several of her pledge class
sisters. In 2009, 40 years after graduation, Deborah
spent a weekend in San Antonio, Texas, with
Susan Oswald James '67, Dianne Maly Haines
'67, Diane Anton Ryll '67, and Pam Hempen
St. Claire '67. "It was amazing to catch up and
share memories. We hadn't changed a bit!" They
met again in Columbia in 2010 and were amazed
at how much the house and campus had changed.
Deborah looks forward to seeing the house when
the renovation is completed.
In addition to international travel, Deborah and
Leon love visiting their son Timothy in Los Angeles
and their son David in New York City. Their son
Chris and grandsons, James and Tyler, live nearby,
so they enjoy attending their school programs

The footings and foundation for the new
addition are progressing and a floor will be
poured. This addition includes the dining/chapter
room, kitchen, second- and third-floor bedrooms,
laundry, large north lounge, and large sun deck.
The third-floor lounge, which used to be the roof.
This is the first time that the old structure and the
1960s addition have been connected.
The third-floor lounge from the outside with new
