"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" ~Martin Luther King, Jr. AWC to raise property taxes Town wide cleanup May 6-12 Arizona Western College (AWC) releases Truth in Taxation information Yuma, AZ - Yuma/La Paz Counties Community College District has re- leased its Truth in Taxation information for the fi scal year 2019-2020 budget, in compliance with Arizona Revised Statue 15-1461.01. According to the Truth in Taxation information, the College is proposing an increase in the primary tax rate of 1.73% over fi scal year 2018-2019, as allowed by state law. The increase will provide an additional $553,249 in revenues. The proposed fi scal year 2020 combined property tax rate of 2.2318 per $100 of net assessed value will cause Yuma/La Paz Coun- ties Community College District's primary property taxes on a $100,000 home to be $223.18 (total proposed taxes including the tax increase). Without the proposed tax increase, the total taxes that would be owed on a $100,000 home would have been $219.39. Essentially, $3.79 for the year is less than your favorite premium coffee shop beverage. The College's secondary tax rate is proposed to continue at .3393 as the College continues to have an outstanding general obligation debt. Details concerning the impact of this proposal, as compared to no in- crease in the property tax rate, are listed in the Truth in Taxation Notice published in the Yuma Sun on April 24 and May 5, 2019 and the Parker Pioneer on April 24 and May 8, 2019. The College's publicly elected fi ve-member Governing Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed fi scal year 2019-2020 budget, property tax rates, and levies on Monday May 13, 2019. The public hearing will begin at 8:00 a.m. in the Frances Morris Board Room in the College Commu- nity Center (3C) on the Arizona Western College campus at 2020 South Avenue 8E, Yuma, Arizona. A Special Meeting to vote on fi scal year 2019-2020 budget, property tax rates, and levies will follow the public hearing. During the Special Meeting, the Governing Board will consider a motion to levy the in- creased property tax by a roll call vote. Any increase would take effect on July 1, 2019. The Board's Regular Meeting for May is scheduled to begin immedi- ately following the Special Meeting. Governing Board meetings are open to the public. Additional information about the College's budget is available online. For information about the College's 2019-2020 proposed budget, tax rates, or levies, contact the College at (928) 344-7522.
