Within a few days, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. After weeks of dialysis, his kidneys are showing signs of improvement. Paul's friends & fans purchased a new keyboard which has lifted his spir- its tremendously. Paul said, "I'm so inspired by your generosity!" Joanne hopes he will be moved soon to a facility closer to Quartzsite. She said, "Keep on praying! Ever little bit helps!" Steve Hohstad of Trickle Creek Studios, is in the process of putting together a CD of Paul's February 16th fi nal concert at the Quartzsite Improvement As- sociation (QIA) to use as a fundraiser for Paul and Joanne. It will be posted for $15 donation on Facebook's Quartzsite Chatter group when available. It will also be available at the bookstore. Volunteers are helping keep the store open. ALL proceeds go to Joanne and Paul to help with medical costs. Paul Winer, (aka Sweet Pie), is a boogie woogie and blues pianist. He rose to fame in the 60s and 70s performing his cabaret act all across Can- ada and the U.S., and was deemed a "grandfather of punk." He's charming enough to get away with the dirtiest lyrics, funny enough to win over even the most skeptical crow, and so entertaining that his act is just as relevant today as it was decades ago. One of Quartzsite's more eccentric local per- sonalities, Paul and his wife Joanne, operate Readers Oasis Bookstore. Paul Winer has held concerts at the Quartzsite Improvement Assoc. (QIA) and many locations in Quartzsite to sell out crowds. Updates on Paul's medical condition will be shared on Facebook.com/ DesertMessengerNews and in multiple Quartzsite Groups. 410 E.
