Delta Gamma page 3 D arcy was inspired to join the advisery board by Tulsa's very large, active alumnae group that helped her collegiate chapter with recruitment regularly, and that contributed a lot of advisers to the chapter. "Being exposed to such active alumnae planted the seed that I should find ways to stay involved as an alumna. After I moved to Iowa City for graduate school, I realized I really missed Delta Gamma and reached out to see if they needed any help at Tau Chapter." Darcy believes the history of Delta Gamma sets it apart from other chapters. "Being one of the first women's fraternities founded, we have a long, very rich history created by many remarkable women. I love reading about the Fraternity. My guess is, I probably still won't know everything there is to know about ΔΓ 50 years from now!" Memorable moment: "As a collegian, I served one year as director of new member education for my chapter. Years after I served in that position, I was at a chapter event and gave a compliment to one of the members who was in the member class I had taught. She was very flattered. Her reaction stuck with me so much, that I was a bit confused about why her response was so large. But then she told me, 'You were the person who taught me how to be a ΔΓ.' To me, that was the greatest acknowledgement I could ever have received for serving my chapter. It means a lot to me to know I made a big impact on someone else's Delta Gamma journey." "I love serving with organizations that help strengthen the community that I live in, so being asked to be a Tau adviser was exciting and easy to accept." As a new adviser, Stephanie works closely with Jessica Mattes '09, and shares, "She immediately set to work and met with alumnae in the area to help fill Tau's advisery board. Jessica's strong sense of leadership, focus, and drive to help shape the collegians of Tau was energizing—I could not wait to be a part of this team." Delta Gamma was the best fit for Stephanie after seeing the sorority offered her incomparable leadership experience, a deeper understanding of communicating with a wide variety of personalities, and friendships that last a lifetime. Favorite ΔΓ tradition: Pi Alpha ceremony, which is the beginning of new membership, new sisters, and new memories. "There is nothing better than the beginning of something wonderful!" Memorable moment: "My favorite so far is during a one-on-one with Tau's VP of communications, Rachel McCracken '17. We had a laundry list of tasks to look over and procedures to iron out, but after we powered through, we had the best conversation about how to use Rachel's public relations knowledge to help with rebranding Tau on the UI campus. We talked at length about creative ideas through many social portals, posts that are value driven, and how VP communications and each of the directors can work together to strengthen Tau's perception on campus and in the community. It was inspiring to listen and brainstorm creative ideas that linked both Delta Gamma and UI studies together." As a collegiate leader, Natalie worked closely with the advisery team chairman, Jackie Leyes Bergquist, Mu '84. Natalie was inspired by Jackie and her fantastic work with the Chapter. "Jackie created a safety net for us to grow our leadership skills." "I really believe the values and structure of Delta Gamma sets women up to be successful ΔΓs of the world. Members can take the lessons they've learned and launch themselves into the working world utilizing skills in networking, business, conflict management, leadership, communication, and so much more. For me that makes Delta Gamma a win- win all around!" Natalie shares her memorable moments are connecting with Delta Gammas who she has advised and are now reaching their own success in their careers, personally, and for many who are advisers. "It's great to see the investment in collegians and advising continue to be paid forward." One of Natalie's favorite Delta Gamma traditions is Initiation.
