Ties to Tau page 2 JESSICA MATTES, ALPHA LAMBDA '10 Advisery Team Chairman J essica was initiated at Drake University with the Alpha Lambda Chapter in 2010. She joined Delta Gamma as a sophomore and graduated from Drake University in 2013. When Jessica moved to Lawrence, Kan., to attend graduate school, she was looking for a way to stay engaged and make friends in the area, and Delta Gamma was the first opportunity that came to her mind. "I reached out to Jen Fetter Poppe, Beta Kappa '02 and was immediately invited to join the advisery team. From there, Delta Gamma became my primary form of volunteerism." In June of 2018, Jessica moved back to Iowa City, Iowa, and now serves as advisery team chairman for Tau Chapter. She shares, "It feels good to give back to an organization that continues to bring me so much joy." Why Jessica believes Delta Gamma is the best sorority: "Delta Gamma provided me with lifelong friendships and a passion for philanthropy; it has gifted me professional connections with women around the country and world. The numerous resources they pour into member education, development, and networking is unmatched." A memorable moment as an adviser: When Beta Kappa received Chapter of the Year award from the University of Kansas. "It was rewarding to see the members work incredibly hard to create change among the chapter membership, and the years of hard work definitely paid off." She was inspired to lead as membership adviser after seeing Delta Gamma collegians tackle so much in their officer roles, all while balancing full-time schoolwork, jobs, as well as participate and lead in other organizations on campus. "I chose to advise Tau Chapter to give my time back to an organization that gave so much to me, and to be a champion for these women as they lead their chapter." Why Lauren believes Delta Gamma is the best sorority: "Delta Gamma invests in its membership, including both collegians and alumnae, and truly challenges young women to be the best versions of themselves. Delta Gamma's mission to 'Do Good' encompasses the core of the Fraternity and provides the framework which shapes women's lives." Memorable moment as an adviser: "I was honored to participate in Delta Gamma's winter 2019 Hope Serving trip, which provided an opportunity to serve at a center for children who are blind and visually impaired in Marrakech, Morocco, alongside fellow Delta Gamma collegians and alumnae from around the world." "I met my best friends through the Chapter and learned invaluable leadership skills that I still use today." Once finding employment through a ΔΓ connection, Jordan really understood the impression Delta Gamma had on her. "I wanted to advise to give back to the organization and Chapter that continues to give so much to me." In Jordan's eyes, Delta Gamma's organization pillars stand out in learning, collaboration, professionalism, and integrity. "Delta Gamma not only encourages these core values through its chapters but helps make them pillars of members' lives as well. Delta Gamma represents a group of unique and inclusive women lifting each other up and promotes development in both professional and personal settings. To me, Delta Gamma means having a community of likeminded women no matter where life takes you." Memorable moment: "One of my favorite ΔΓ memories came as an alumna when I served as the maid of honor in my Big's wedding. It was so much fun reflecting on all our memories, planning events together and celebrating her special day with a group of our ΔΓ sisters at the wedding." She was inspired to become an adviser by the many wonderful women she witnessed over the years serving as advisers to various chapters. "Some of my biggest role models are my mom, Jackie Leyes Bergquist, Mu '84, and Janet Brodie Riley '76. I saw them give back because they care so much about our beloved organization and I, too, wanted to help." Why Britt believes Delta Gamma is the best sorority: "Delta Gamma is constantly trying to live by high ideals and better ourselves as an organization. I'm proud to be a part of an organization that does so much for women, but also always strives to be better and hold ourselves to a higher standard." Memorable moment: Attending Convention in 2018. "It was so awesome to see two new CDCs, Anna Long '14 and Sarah Gornik '14, from Tau Chapter. It was a proud moment for Iowa." Connect with Britt via email at britt.bergquist@gmail.com.
