Quartzsite Quilters held their annual Quilt Show this past weekend, Feb. 15 & 16 at the Senior Center. The Ribbon Winners were: Special Mention: Katy Cushman age 9, for her ���rst quilt. Members Choice Award: Janet Nieuwenhoff for her ���Christmas is Coming��� Quilt (Entry number 51). Large Quilt: 1st, Janet Nieuwehoff (51) 2nd, Abby Weaver (67) 3rd, Kathy Chesher (74) Small Quilts: 1st, Marilyn Galoff (4) 2nd, Jean Lindsay (14) 3rd, Abby Weaver (68) Wall Hanging: 1st Janet Nieuwenhoff (52) 2nd Thema Wentworth (21) 3rd, Icky Orr (44) Household Items: 1st, Barbara Mitchell (90) 2nd, Louise Cheever (62) 3rd, Sue Hickman (72) Fashion: 1st, Marilyn Perek (18) 2nd, Marilyn Wilbanks (80) 3rd, Louise Cheever (64) Quartzsite Quilters held their annual Quilt Show Friday and Saturday, February 15 & 16th. The annual show consisted of almost 100 quilts, a variety of vendors and delicious food from the Senior Center volunteers. Guests were given gloves to wear, protecting the quilts. Along with the quilt raf���e, door prize drawings were given every half hour. The organizers placed one unique quilt in the ���place of honor��� near the entrance. This quilt was displayed by Geneva Lee of Burley, Idaho, a 99 years old snowbird, who spends 6 months in Quartzsite. Her mother hand stitched the pieces and hand quilted the blanket, sometime in the 40���s. It appears brand new; Ms. Lee believes it was never used. Residents and Snowbird Quilters work all year sewing quilts to donate to La Paz County foster children & the women���s shelter in Parker, Quartzsite Fire & Police Departments, as well local children. This past Christmas, 20 blankets were given to the children participating in Quartzsite���s After- School Program. A special thank you to all that attended the show and supported our quilt group.
