Page 16 www.DesertMessenger.com February 20, 2013 2013 La Paz County Spelling Bee Champion Parker, Arizona - In an unprecedented, exciting ���nal round of more than 23 words, Aubry Herrell, an eighth grade student at Wallace Junior High School was named the 2013 La Paz County Spelling Bee Champion. Close competitor, Jacob Gatter, a 7th grade student at Quartzsite Elementary School, was the runner-up. Not only did Aubry receive a championship trophy, but Wallace Jr. High School will proudly display the traveling La Paz County Spelling Bee Championship Trophy until next year���s contest. Additionally, Aubry���s name will be permanently added to the perpetual plaque that is on display at the County Education Service Agency Of���ce. Additional photos of this exciting event are located on our website www.lapazschools.org . Aubry is the 13 year old daughter of Jaime and Brian Herrell. She will represent our county at the state competition to be held March 23rd at the KAET Channel 8 Studios located on the Ari- ates Gift Certific Available zona State University campus in Tempe. The county contest, held February 12th at the La Paz County Board of Supervisor���s Building, had a crowd of family and friends cheering for their school winners. Judges for the event were Deanna Beaver, PUSD Governing Board Member; Leah Castro, County Treasurer; and Richard Tozer, AWC Interim Associate Dean of La Paz Services. Dru Waggoner, La Paz County ESA Director, was the Pronouncer. La Paz County School Superintendent, Janice Shelton, expressed her appreciation for their time and capable service. She also recognized Sandi Harper, Chief Deputy for the County Education Service Agency, for assisting with the event and all the site coordinators who held the individual school competitions. Thanks were also given to La Paz County Board of Supervisor���s for providing the facilities and certi���cates and Joyce Curen from Look-n-See for engraving services.
