2 Lambda Chi Alpha Alpha-Phi Zeta Celebrates the Success of Several Brothers Entrepreneurship and the 2019 Levitetz Seed Grant competition. In addition, we would like to recognize Noah Murphy, AΦ1863 on enlisting in the Air Force National Guard. Noah has taken the semester off in order to go to Basic Military Training and we wish him luck and are awaiting his return in a few months. As always, we are incredibly thankful for the continued support and generosity of our alumni and we look forward to seeing you and your families on October 26 at Homecoming as we take on the Razorbacks. In Z.A.X., Reed Schwartz, AΦ1809 High Alpha nrschwartz@crimson.ua.edu Brother Matteo Taraborrelli, AΦ1872 was elected as senator to the College of Arts and Sciences. (Continued from page 1) Michael Schwartz, aΦ1027 DoeS hiS Part to enSure laMbDa chi reMainS Strong at ua M ichael Schwartz, AΦ1027 knew many brothers at Lambda Chi when he came to Alabama as a freshman in the fall of 1980. About 20 or so of his older friends from the Gadsden area where he grew up were Lambda Chis, so the decision to join the brotherhood was as easy as going to Alabama. During his time at Alpha-Phi Zeta, Michael held the offices of House Manager, Rush Chairman, and President. While at Alabama, he worked full time at Bruno's/Food World and also received an early ROTC commission as a 2nd Lieutenant (Armor) in the U.S. Army. All of this experience at a young age, plus his marketing degree, taught him how to be persuasive, get things done, and be an effective leader. "It's great to be part of something bigger than you are," Michael said. "The bonds of brotherhood are eternal. Even 30-plus years later, some of my brothers and I get together every year for a guys' weekend, and make sure to stay in contact through all of the high- tech methods these days. We also do a good job of meeting up for UA Homecoming and the many SEC/National Championship games!" Michael recently joined Alpha-Phi Zeta's House Corporation since he wants to continue to do his part to ensure Lambda Chi's strong future on campus. Additionally, he might have influenced his youngest son, Reed, AΦ1809, to join Lambda Chi. "It was a sur- real moment to participate in Reed's initiation, and I'm so proud of him, especially after he was recently elected President." When asked about his advice for the under- graduates, Michael shared two themes that he has followed in his career. First, "Waiting to see which way the wind blows is a great way to become a follower." Second, "Results first, respect always. Most importantly, be involved from day one. You are most needed as a senior and certainly as an alumnus. Your Fraternity brothers will be your friends for life and they're worth your investment." Michael and his wife, Lunda, live in Fayette, Alabama (Lunda's hometown), which is only 45 minutes from Tuscaloosa. They have one daughter, Alexa, and two sons, Sherman and Reed. Michael retired after 25 years at PepsiCo. He wanted to "live off the grid" after relocating over 10 times, including a seven-year stay in Mexico City. He does consulting work for various consumer products companies in the U.S. and Mexico. He and Lunda also own and manage www.iLoveAkumal.com, which is a vacation rental company for Akumal beachfront villas in the heart of Mexico's Riviera Maya. In his free time, he enjoys scuba diving, playing golf, and traveling (he recently visited his 50th country). You can get in touch with Michael at michael.schwartz@me.com.
