PI DEUTERON CHAPTER OF PHI GAMMA DELTA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS • SPRING 2019 Facility and Financial Growth Preview a Successful Spring Semester T here is much to be enthusiastic about at Pi Deuteron! It has been a solid academic year for the undergraduate Chapter. Their grades have greatly improved, having obtained a 3.2 overall GPA for the fall semester, which places them ninth on the Hill for all fraternities. Their goal is to be in the top 5, and the House Corporation be- lieves we have the leadership in place to get there. Facility Upgrades Over the holiday break, all the windows on the west side of the Fraternity House were replaced, and they look beautiful. Many thanks to Tuffy Mayor '66, our Purple Legionnaire, for the time he has spent working with vendors to se- lect the product and get the project implemented. Phase I is now complete. Phase II replacement of the windows on the front of the house will take place this summer. Phase III will replace the east side over holiday break next academic year, and the final phase will be the back of the house next summer. Future projects identified by House Corporation include a new parking lot and HVAC improvements, which are currently being considered. Financial Update Through an increase in rent and managing ex- penses, I am pleased to report that both the un- dergraduate and graduate Chapters are operating with positive cash flow. It has also allowed us to continue to pay down our mortgage while taking on needed house improvement projects. Gradu- ate Brother annual gifts are also greatly needed and appreciated. They enhance our ability to make improvements and enhance the under- graduate Chapter's experiences at Pi Deuteron. Please consider making gifts to the Chapter if you haven't already. We Need Your Recommendations Please keep sending the Recruitment Chairmen your recommendations. They are working hard to ensure the incoming class is strong and sustains the great momentum that has been generated. Currently, we need a Board of Chapter Advisors President. The House Corporation Board wel- comes your suggestions for a Graduate Brother who may be willing to serve in this vital role. The BCA has struggled to maintain a presence through the years, so we need strong and consis- tent leadership. In our opinion, it is key to bring- ing the Cheney Cup back to Pi Deuteron. Please let us know if you would be willing to serve. Mighty Proud! Andy Morrison '87 President, House Corporation Board amorrison@kuendowment.org Perge! Matt Palmer '90 Creates Monumental Artwork for KU Campus M att Palmer '90 can say without question that joining FIJI was one of the greatest decisions he's ever made in his life. The values and discipline instilled in him during his four years at KU are invaluable, not to mention the relationships he made that remain just as strong 30 years later. One of the big things that Matt loved about his time with FIJI was the requirement to get involved on campus. It didn't matter what you did as long as you did something. "I worked on University Daily Kansan and SUA," Matt said. "Had I not been a member of the Fraternity, I wouldn't have been involved in those organizations. Not only that, I was a bit of an anomaly among my FIJI Brothers as I lived in the house all four years. Most moved out after their sophomore, but I absolutely loved my time in the house. We had a good chef and were only a good 100 yards from cam- pus. It didn't get much better!"
