Billy J. Buckner (Ret.) has served as the Director for Methodist University at Fort Bragg since 2015. Before that, Buckner served as the Associate Vice President for Military and Veteran Programs at Fayetteville Technical Community College, Business Development Specialist at the North Carolina Military Business Center, and as a Public Relations Manager at TigerSwan, Inc. He is a 1982 graduate of Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant and served nearly 29 years in the Army as an Infantryman and Public Affairs Officer. Buckner's first assignment in the Army was with the 2nd Brigade (Falcons) Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division in 1983 at Fort Bragg. Other assignments included tours in the 10th Mountain Division (Light), 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), 25th Infantry Division (Light), and the Pentagon as well as multiple combat tours to Iraq. Buckner's last assignment in the Army was as the XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg Public Affairs Officer from 2003 to 2010. In this role and his last overseas deployment, Billy deployed to Haiti in Jan 2010 as the Joint Task Force Public Affairs Officer and Deputy Communications Director for Operation RESTORE HOPE, earthquake disaster relief operations in Haiti. Buckner is a founding member and former president of the nonprofit Airborne Scholarship Association and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, the former Kathy Frazier, for 35 years, and they have two adult daughters and one granddaughter.
