O n the following pages, you'll learn about a plan for a new Chapter House at 324 South Monroe. It's a plan that: n Will keep us competitive with other fraternities and with enhanced university living facilities. n Has been carefully researched and developed by our Chapter's alumni leaders for the Alpha Tau Omega collegians of today and tomorrow. n Benefits from extensive input from representative alumni nationwide, along with professional architects, engineers, fundraising counsel, financial advisors, and the university. A house for tomorrow with historic touches from our past. Knowing that our house was behind the times and in need of extensive upgrades, your Chapter leaders advanced two options: one involving significant remodeling and modernization, and the other building new at the same site. Aer working through these concepts with engineers and architects, developing detailed estimates, and testing ideas with members, it's clear that the latter option—building new—makes the most sense. It's simply not financially feasible to sink even more money into a place with significant structural problems. But in building new, our members offered this clear advice: While incorporating modern amenities, we all want the new house to retain the look and character of the college home we know and love. Affordability is also important. We don't want to lose great prospects because they and their families can't cover the cost. So that's exactly the charge we issued to our architectural team: Build on the same lot. Keep the exterior look of our historic building. And while designing a building to today's safety standards, collegiate expectations, and affordability, incorporate some of the historic touches that make us who we are as a fraternity and as a Chapter. All options considered. The smartest one advanced. "Epsilon Omicron may have a rich, 68-year-old heritage, but that hardly guarantees us a future. We've entered an era of fast history, rapidly changing times, and the only way we'll earn the right to be here tomorrow is by what we do today. The time has come for all of us to make an investment in Epsilon Omicron's future." – Scott Gilpin '78
