Page 2 membershIp After another great year of recruitment, we initi- ated 28 new brothers: 20 in Alpha, four in Beta, and four in this fall's Gamma class. Our goal this school year is to hit 40 new members throughout the three classes. As a chapter, Indiana Gamma strives to recruit members that exemplify our three cardinal principles: Friendship, Sound Learning, and Moral Rectitude. "The quality of our potential new members this year contin- ues to amaze me," says Recruitment Chairman Samuel Ross '20. "I cannot wait to see what they can become within this house." Chapter Campus, CommunIty, and soCIal aCtIvItIes This year, our Chapter partnered with Kappa Alpha Theta sorority for Homecoming. After a week full of events, we placed first for the fourth time in five years. Furthermore, we placed first in Yell Like Hell (for the second year in a row) and in Homecoming Parade Floats. Our Chapter is committed to serving the India- napolis area and sponsors a minimum of four community service events per semester. Here are some of the events that we have participated in over the last year. Reading Program Out continued partnership with the Indy Read- ing Team promotes literacy to underprivileged children attending an Indianapolis public school. Each week, 10 to 12 brothers work with kids ages 6 to 12 to enhance their reading and speak- ing skills; this is more than double the involve- ment we had last year. We expanded the reading program by partnering with Pi Beta Phi, boost- ing the outreach and impact of the program. Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ISBVI) We developed a mentorship program with IS- BVI. Each week, 15 to 20 brothers are paired with one student with whom they interact and mentor. Through the program, these children can develop more confidence in themselves and fur- ther develop their social and cognitive skills. Our Chapter has been hard at work planning a variety of social events for brothers to enjoy. The following events are examples of what we have done over the past year. • Build-A-Bear Community Service with Alpha Phi • Pumpkin Carving with Tri Delta • Lawn Games with Alpha Phi • Halloween Masquerade at The Castle • Christmas Date Night at The Castle • Spring Formal in Louisville, Ky. member aCtIvItIes on Campus Phi Delta Theta prides itself in its members' de- votion to the Chapter and to Butler's campus. Over one-fourth of our members hold a lead- ership position in an on-campus organization, including the Interfraternity Council, Student Government Association, Butler BIGS, Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, and many oth- ers. Brothers also have served as GEAR repre- sentatives (Greek as Educators, Advocates, and Resources), student orientation coordinators and guides, Bulldogs into the Streets site lead- ers, team builders for Ambassadors of Change, student ambassadors, and more. Our own Tony Trimpe '19 even served as the co-chairman for Bulldogs into the Streets. parent events In the spring, we hosted our second annual Par- ents' Day. Parents got to have lunch with their sons, meet brothers and their parents, and enjoy a game of trivia. It was an opportunity for many newly initiated members to show their parents the Chapter House and what Phi Delt is all about. Our Parent Club Coordinator, Austin Gick '21, said this about Parents' Day: "We at Phi Delta Theta recognize and appreciate the importance of family. The love and support we have from our parents helps to make us the greatest version of ourselves." We want to thank all our parents for their constant love and support. Intramurals Phi Delta Theta had another tremendous year in intramural sports, capped off with raising over $1,200 through Polar Plunge, benefitting Special Olympics Indiana. We strengthened the brother- hood during events such as Spring Sports, where we had an impressive showing from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. "Through intramurals, brothers are able to strengthen bonds and learn how to work togeth- er," said Intramural Sports Chairman Michael Chinn '21. "Spring Sports is the perfect blend of promoting brotherhood and supporting phi- lanthropy." Phi Delta Theta continues a record of excellence in intramural sports and looks for- ward to another strong year. ConClusIon As you can see, the future of the Indiana Gamma Chapter is bright. We are proud of our members for their efforts in the classroom (pushing us to top GPA); their impact in the community through service and philanthropy; the leadership demon- strated in the Chapter and on campus; their tire- less devotion to becoming the greatest versions of themselves; and their dedication to continual improvement and growth of the Chapter. We are very grateful for the support we receive from our alumni throughout the year, and we highly en- courage all Phis to drop by the house at any time. Here's to another great year of Phi Delta Theta and to an even brighter tomorrow. Yours in the Bond, Luke Rihm '20 #2097 Chapter President lrihm@butler.edu Indiana Gamma Is No. 1 in Campus Academics (Continued from page 1)
