DECEMBER 19-25, 2018 UCW 27 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM WEEKLY HOROSCOPE NEWS OF THE WEIRD by the Editors at Andrews McMeel Syndication Seems like an honest mistake John Stevenson of Inverclyde, Scotland, hit a bump in his plans to vacation in the United States on Dec. 3 when his visa was denied after he declared himself a terrorist while fill- ing out a Department of Homeland Security online form commonly known as ESTA. One of the questions on the form asks, "Are you a terrorist?" Steven- son, 70, told e Independent that the website "must have jumped from No to Yes without me knowing," add- ing that the site kept timing out and crashing as he and his wife, Marion, tried to answer the questions. "I even called the border control in the U.S. and gave them my passport details," he said. "ey looked up my ESTA number and said, 'You're a terrorist.' e only time I've been in court was for jury service. Marion is sick about it. ... I don't know why that question is on the form in the first place." (UPDATE: United Airlines refund- ed the Stevensons' airline tickets and gifted them two free flights to New York once their visa troubles are all worked out.) [e Independent, 12/1/2018] Least competent criminals A successful heist at an electronics retail store requires careful planning and attention to detail — a fact that appears to have escaped three men in North Raleigh, North Carolina, on Nov. 12. at night, e News & Observer reported, an employee of the store called 911 to report that three men had entered the store with semi- automatic weapons and ordered workers into the stockroom. One of them was carrying a cardboard box, officers learned, which he used to load up mobile phones and smart watches. e men also filled two crates with merchandise, which to- taled more than $26,000. When the robbers left through the back door, they took the crates with them, but forgot the cardboard box which, serendipitously, sported a shipping label with an address on it. Police used the address, along with a mug shot from a previous crime that matched an image in the store's surveillance video, to track down Brian Lamonte Clark, 22, and arrest him for robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery. Question: I was crushed to learn ABC wasn't going forward with a spinoff of "e Middle" following the wonderful Eden Sher as Sue Heck. Any thoughts? – Lydia Matt Roush: I'm disappointed as well, because the notion of spending more time with Sue softened the blow of "e Middle" going off the air. Without having seen the pilot, I can't comment on whether it was a worthy vehicle for Eden Sher, but this may have been a victim of the ongoing regime change at ABC/Disney. "Sue in the City" was in the pipeline as the network replaced one entertainment president for an- other, in advance of Disney absorbing the Fox studio and many of its execs. When these shifts occur, there's often a cleaning of the deck, and because "e Middle" and its spinoff were not Dis- ney or Fox properties, but hailed from the Warner Bros studio, that may have also lessened its appeal from a corpo- rate perspective. Question: Help! I have not been able to find "Trading Spaces!" – Kay Matt Roush: e revival ninth season aired in April and May, with only eight episodes. e good news is that the show did well and was picked up for a 10th season, which will premiere sometime in 2019 with a longer season — although it's not clear just how many episodes will be in the new batch. To submit questions to TV Critic Matt Roush, go to: tvinsider.com by Damian Holbrook Cheers to "New Amsterdam" for fight- ing cancer with facts. While Max (the fantastic Ryan Eggold) has spent the first half of the NBC medical hit's fresh- man season exploring options for his grave condition, the show has been slyly providing viewers with vital, honest info about clinical trials, the side effects of chemo and the importance of having advocates. Even better: No bill! Jeers to "How to Get Away With Mur- der 's" killers for getting sloppy. Bon- nie (Liza Weil) and Nate (Billy Brown) deserve life sentences for stupidly offing Miller right outside Connor and Oliver's crowded wedding reception. It's like these two have learned nothing from Annalise!
