www.kufiji.org 3 Connect with KU Fiji Online i O n Friday, September 28th, Pi Deuteron Graduate and Undergraduate Brothers came together for the annual Pig Dinner at the Oread Hotel. The evening began with a showing of this spring's Rock Chalk Revue-winning performance, a presentation that was accompanied by the winning director, senior Daniel Erickson '19. Following that was cocktail hour and the dinner itself, in which Brothers cherished memories and traditions of old, such as bringing in the pig, the introduction of the new members, the kissing of the pig, the exile's toast, and presentation of Silver and Golden Owls to the classes of 1993 and 1968. This year's keynote speaker was Brother Joe Reitz '60, who spoke on the necessity to rid the Chapter of contentment and the need for courageous leadership within Brothers. Further, the first class of Horejsi Scholars were awarded, thanks to a gracious $500,000 donation from Stewart '59 and John Horejsi '90. The recipients were Seth Wingerter '20, Stephen Mussat '21, Clay Henry '21, David Parks '21, and Sam Johnston '21, and all received $5,000 for their scholastic excellence with the ability to renew that scholarship each year. The dinner wrapped up, and Brothers convened the next morning for coffee at the house. Thank you to all who attended this year's event. It was surely one for the books. TRADITIONS CELEBRATED DURING PIG DINNER to preserve its strong standing on campus. "It's great to see a house that I can be proud that I was a member of. When people ask where you went to school and if you were in a fraternity, and you say FIJI, you want them to be proud. I'm glad to be associated with a successful fraternity. We've all seen in recent years that when bad things happen at chapters across the country, those houses fade away. So despite our issues from years past, I'm proud that our members stuck with it and now they're back to where they should be. It's a good feeling. "Two years ago I was a featured speaker at Pig Dinner and told the Chapter that the best thing to do during your undergraduate years is enjoy it and take advantage of the opportunities that come your way. These are the best times of your life and the friends you make now will be your friends for life. You'll lean on them in times of trouble and success. I'm an example of someone who's been out of college for 24 years and a some of my best friends today are my Pi Deuteron Brothers. If someone told me that same thing when I was in their position I probably wouldn't have believed it, but it's absolutely true. My decision to join FIJI was honestly one of the best decisions I ever made. It was an amazing four years and I'm glad to still be part of it now."
