FIJI Jayhawker 2 M y name is Seth Wingerter '20, and I am the newly elected president at Pi Deuteron. I was born and raised in the Overland Park area, am a junior studying finance, and seek to become the first person in my immediate family to obtain a college degree. With that, FIJI has become a home for me; after living in the dorms my freshman year, I joined as a sophomore, and immediately found the community that I had lacked throughout high school and the previous year. With that, I look to give all I have to this Fraternity to make it the best it can be, as it has done the same for me. In a period in which fraternity life continually has its reputation tarnished, many people see a bleak future, but I see hope and growth. We have 100 men in this house who are bright-eyed and ready to take on the world, and I see the potential for each one of them to make a difference after college. The Chapter has achieved a lot over the last 14 months. We won Rock Chalk Revue for the first time in 20 years, we raised thousands of dollars through the first and second annual Fiji Islander weeks, and we've set multiple Chapter records in pledge class size. The Chapter is growing and is on a bristling pace toward success, and while I have not directly presided over any of these accomplishments, I would like to thank the Undergraduate Brothers of our Chapter for giving me a great groundwork to build from. With that being said, complacency is the ultimate enemy. We strive to increase our Chapter GPA, as we recognize that the grades we have posted recently do not meet our standards. We have implemented multiple measures and continue to combat complacency with a drive for excellence, and we are very confident in what the future holds. Pi Deuteron strives to involve our Graduate Brothers more as we continue to embody the motto "Not for college days alone." If there is anything of concern, or you have any suggestion for the Chapter, please let me know. Call, text, or email. I appreciate any wisdom and advice. He knew coming into KU that he wanted to play college sports, so joining a fraternity wasn't a high priority. However, when he learned that many of his friends who were also attending KU were going through recruitment, he joined them and ultimately decided to join FIJI. "Right away I knew I was going to have a different experience than most," Greg said. "As an athlete it would have been extremely difficult to live in the house because of my busy schedule, and while that physically set me apart from the group, they always made me feel right at home and as an equal member of the Brotherhood. Everybody knew basketball was my number-one priority, and I was never made to feel bad about it. There was a camaraderie I got from my FIJI Brothers that I didn't get from the basketball team. Pi Deut gave me another place to go that my teammates didn't have, so I felt extra special in that regard." Greg enjoys seeing how far FIJI has come at KU. As every long-running organization does, Pi Deuteron has had its peaks and valleys over the years, and Greg is happy to see the Undergraduate Brothers taking care Greg Gurley '95 Scores Big with FIJI and KU Basketball
