PI DEUTERON CHAPTER OF PHI GAMMA DELTA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS • FALL 2018 FIJI GETS THE WINDOW TREATMENT WITH UPGRADES ON THE HORIZON G reetings from the House Corporation. It's hard to believe the fall semester is almost over. As I write this, Thanksgiving is approaching, and after that our Undergraduate Brothers only have a few weeks until finals begin. The House Corporation is pleased with the state of affairs at Pi Deut! It appears we have a very strong pledge class and the fall semester has gone smoothly. SECURITY SYSTEM INSTALLED Over fall break, the House Corporation, with the financial assistance of the Mother's Club, installed a state-of-the-art security system in the house. This system will allow us to monitor activities both inside and outside the house. In the past, we have experienced vandalism and car break-ins on our property. Hopefully, this system will both deter criminal activity and help us and the authorities resolve crimes. It is also a reminder to the Undergraduate Brothers that they need to be accountable for their actions. Until the system was installed, we were one of the few houses on campus without one. ALLEVIATING OUR WINDOW PAINS Over the holiday break, we will begin the installation of new windows. Every window in the house will eventually be replaced, but we will do the project in stages over several years. The first stage will be on the west side of the house, followed by the front, the east, and finally the north. The windows have needed to be replaced for some time, and the upgrade, while costly, will eventually result in cost savings for utilities, not to mention better functionality and a more attractive appearance. ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL STAG PIG Our Stag Pig event was held in September on Homecoming weekend. We had a large turnout of Graduate and Undergraduate Brothers. The highlights were the introduction of the new members, an unparalleled rendition of the Exiles Toast by Brother Dave Claflin '85, the unveiling of a new, beautiful portrait of Brother Stewart Horejsi '59 painted by Brother John Martin '60 to hang in the house, and a quality address by Brother Joe Reitz '60. For those of you who could not or have not attended Stag Pig in a number of years, please consider attending and encouraging your Brothers to do the same. It's a great way to reconnect with Brothers and meet the Undergraduate Brothers. And our newly renovated house is something to behold! Finally, I want to thank each and every one of you who chose to support the Chapter House with a gift during our Mighty Proud campaign. Pledge payments are now nearly complete, and the percentage of fulfilled pledges is over 95%. That is marvelous! And through a combination of gifts, increase in the undergraduate rent, and increased capacity and occupancy, we have been able to extinguish the original mortgage and significantly reduce our remodel construction loan. Your gifts have helped revitalize and energize Pi Deuteron! Mighty Proud, Andy Morrison '87 House Corporation President andymorrison@kc.rr.com Perge!
