ARAMBURU ISLAND ENHANCEMENT Together with the Richardson Bay Audubon Society, this 17- acre island in Richardson Bay was enhanced to improve habi- tats, stabilize the rapidly eroding eastern shoreline, and help the island and surrounding com- munities adapt to sea level rise. The project helped to pilot soft erosion protection techniques that could be used across the Bay Area. By 2014, Aramburu Island became one of only four known successful nesting sites for Black Oystercatchers within San Francisco Bay! BOLINAS LAGOON RESTORATION The Bolinas Lagoon Ecosystem Restoration Project will help protect this internationally recognized, 1,000-acre wetland. The North End Wetland Enhancement and Sea Level Rise Adaptation Project is the result of over 20 years of collaboration between the County and local communities. Phase one is the Bolinas Wye Project. Currently in design, this project reconnects the lagoon to its upland creeks, removes fish passage barriers, and elevates the Olema-Bolinas Road at a key intersection to reduce roadway flooding while allowing the lagoon to expand with sea level rise. MCINNIS MARSH RESTORATION Currently in the design phase, the McInnis Marsh project pro- poses to restore 180 acres of marsh and improve fish and wildlife habitat while providing protection from sea level rise to the adjacent McInnis Park and Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary Dis- trict water treatment facility. This project would improve habitat for threatened and endangered species such as the Ridgway's rail, the California black rail, the saltmarsh harvest mouse, and steelhead. The project also proposes a new trail to replace the current levee trail that will be lost to sea level rise.
