Reading logs are available at all Cumberland County Public Library branches and are located in the December calendar of events and online. Complete It's A Wrap! For all ages cumberland.lib.nc.us your log between Dec. 15 - Jan. 31, submit to any branch when finished, and receive a prize for participating while supplies last. Children and teens who turn in a completed reading log will receive a free book and those who complete a continuation log are eligible to win a Barnes and Noble gift card. Continuation logs are available at any branch location. Adults that complete a reading log will receive a limited-edition deck of playing cards with a plastic carrying case while supplies last and are eligible for a WRAP gift basket (one per branch) and the grand prize of $100 Amazon gift card. T he Cumberland County Tax Administration Office reminds citizens that property taxes for real estate and personal property listed in January 2018 will be delinquent if not paid by Jan. 7, 2019. Interest and enforced collections such as bank levy, wage/rent garnishments, and/or foreclosure, will begin on Jan. 8, 2019. Interest and collection fees will be added to the tax amount due. County Government offices and the Courthouse will be closed Dec. 24-26 for the Christmas holiday. Offices will again be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 1, for New Year's Day. Tax Administration reminds citizens of these closings and to plan accordingly. Payments may be made in the office, by phone, or online with your credit or debit card. To pay in person, go to Room 527 on the fifth floor of the Courthouse, 117 Dick St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. To pay by phone, call 1-866- 441-6614. Property Tax Payment and Listing Deadlines County Commissioners Sworn In F our Cumberland County Commissioners took the oath of office Dec. 3 during a special Board of Commissioners meeting held in the Crown Coliseum Ballroom. Commissioners Glenn Adams, Jeannette Council, Charles Evans and Larry Lancaster were sworn in after they were all re-elected Nov. 6 in the general election. Following the administration of the oaths, the new board, by a majority vote of 5 to 1, elected Council to serve as chair and Faircloth to serve as vice chairman for 2019. Commissioners Adams, Council, Evans, Faircloth and Lancaster voted in favor with Commissioner Michael Boose voting in opposition. Commissioner Jimmy Keefe was not in attendance. Commissioners Adams and Council represent District 1. Commissioners Evans and Lancaster are at-large commissioners. Lancaster served as chairman and Council served as vice chair in 2018. Lancaster reviewed County accomplishments and progress during his year as chairman and thanked the public, his fellow commissioners and County employees. Incoming Chair Council presented Lancaster a plaque in recognition of his service. Council outlined goals and priorities for the new year, which include three key priorities: • Eliminate the Policy, Finance and Facilities committee meetings, and instead have all seven commissioners meet monthly for an agenda review session.
