"Bud" Root '57-696 of Yakima, WA, passed away at the age of 78 on March 6, 2017. At Oregon State, he participated in the college play house and completed a degree in agricultural economics in 1960. e passion to farm brought him home to e Dalles, OR, where he farmed dry land wheat for eight years in Arlington. When the farm was sold, he began his career in farm equipment sales with a position in Twin Falls, ID, with J.I. Case & Co. He worked in various roles for 16 years and eventually landed in Yakima. In 1985, he became an independent sales representative, selling road side spray equipment, with a territory from the Mississippi River to the West Coast. He retired in 2001. Bud was an avid golfer and member of the Yakima Country Club and Suntides golf courses. From 1980 to 2000, he was a youth and high school soccer official. He served on the Educational Service District board of Gilliam County. Bud was a Master Mason and a 50-year member of Arlington Lodge Number 88. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite. Bud loved to sail his 23-foot San Juan Boat (True Love) and was a member of the Yakima Valley Boat Club for 18 years. He and his wife of 58 years, Betty, traveled to 48 of the 50 states, Canada, and abroad. Betty survives, along with their son, Rusty, daughter, Randi, five grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters. Stephen C. Dransfeldt '65-765 passed away in Lincoln City, OR, on January 17, at age 71, aer battling a rare form of cancer. While attending Oregon State University, he met and married Hope K. Majors Polston on September 18, 1967. He graduated with his mechanical cngineering degree in 1969. During his career, Stephen worked for the family business, Arnel's Inc., in Portland, from 1969 to 1990 as the plant engineer, mold maker, and sculptor. He then started his own business, Sun Earth Research Solar, working in research and development, and worked with Designs by Hope as a sculptor and mold maker. He lived in Salem, Oregon City, Gladstone, and Otis, OR. Stephen loved to play guitar and sing, and he and Hope enjoyed traveling in their RV. ey were married for 51 years. Hope survives, along with their sons, Eric and Marc, and two grandchildren. Lynn I. Sanchez '83-1119 passed away on Tuesday, May 29, aer a six-year battle with cancer. Lynn's career as a scientist and researcher spanned almost 30 years. For the past 6 years, he worked for Biotronik in Lake Oswego as a clinical research associate. He took a break from science from 2004-2011 to fulfill his dream of owning a specialty toy store. He loved Wiz Bang Toys and was known to many in the community, even years aer it closed, as "e Toy Guy." Lynn and his wife of 23 years, Nancy, have three children, Paul, Cole and Noelle. He loved to see his children excel in school, sports, music and the arts. He made it to every game, every performance and every event possible. He loved to play sports too. Playing and watching tennis and volleyball were some of his favorites. Always a kid at heart, he also loved to put together model rockets. Lynn was a devoted Christian. For the past five years, he attended SouthLake Church in West Linn, OR. Some of his fondest memories were of Powell Butte Christian Church where he attended as a young man. He is survived by his wife, parents and siblings. eodore C. "Ted" Winn '88-1271, longtime Nike executive and social media manager, passed away March 30, in Portland. He was 48. John Canzano, writer with the Oregonian, posted articles about Ted's struggle with a rare form of cancer. Here is a quote from an article Canzano posted on March 30: "He was a big spirit. Co- workers and friends will tell you so. Winn rose at Nike, going from answering phones and replacing defective products in 1995 to footwear testing and then to the director of social media. Employees there told me Ted would start his morning at work by going desk to desk, greeting every employee in his department. Winn was told aer diagnosis he was living on borrowed time. He was given days to live, weeks at best. He treated his time as such. He laughed a lot. He loved a lot. He valued small conversations, like the ones over breakfast with his family." Ted Winn is survived by his wife, Sandi, and their two children, son Cooper and daughter Rylee.
