Roberts '65-758 was widowed for the second time on December 29, 2017. He has begun some international traveling that had to wait due to his wife's health. Dan spends cold months in Arizona and warm in Wyoming. He retired aer 45 years in broadcasting, including station ownership; his career began at KOAC as a member of ΛΧΑ. Dan is also active in ham radio with the call sign K9DR. Email: K9DR@cox.net Jeffrey C. Sires '67-787 retired from Boeing in 2013 as a soware engineer, which has allowed him time to travel. Driscoll '68-811 was the first "Atomic Veteran" that Oregon State researchers had heard of. He was interviewed by the Special Collections and Archives Research Center on OSU campus in e Valley Library; he was within the first 10 interviewed out of 243, all of which took over four years to complete. He uses the extra time to play golf and work around the house. Bob lives in Gresham, OR. Email: bob@wampler.org Gary B. Long '75-945 retired from Intel in 2016 aer 37 years in high tech, the last 16 at Intel. He still plays basketball with the younger generation, but it is getting harder to stay in front of them on defense. He also plays golf in a league and various tournaments throughout the summer. He and his wife, Sandra, enjoy travel, having visited the five national parks in Utah last year. ey enjoyed the 100-year celebration. McClow '81-1081 has been in the Portland, OR, area, since 1985, working in the financial service industry. He is a private client advisor at JP Morgan Services, where he recently finished his 20th year with the firm. Matthew has two great kids, Jackson (22) and Anna (17), and feels very blessed. His daughter Amy graduated with a doctorate in physical therapy from Pacific University in May, and his daughter Megan graduated from OSU in public health in June and was married on July 28. Email: drw@eyecaregroup.net Alpha Lambda Alumnotes Samuel Stephenson Montgomery '54-651 of Owingsville, KY, and formerly of Klamath Falls, OR, passed away February 15, 2017, at the age of 83. He was known as Sam by many of his relatives and close friends. Many knew him as Steve, his preferred name. He graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1952, and studied engineering at Southern Oregon University and Oregon State. He joined the Army for a number of years and specialized in surveying, draing, cartographic techniques, and photo interpretation. Later, he returned to OSU and studied geography. Steve was an accomplished editorialist and worked for the National Academy of Science in Washington, D.C., and he went on to become a self-employed consultant in Arlington, VA. Upon retirement, he and his partner of 30 years, Dave Brokaw, moved to the Oregon coast near Coos Bay and later to a horse farm, Ty Run Stables, in Owingsville, KY. Steve's many interests included woodworking, playing the piano, and caring for their four horses on the farm. Survivors include, Dave; his son, Mark, and daughter-in-law, Christine; and grandson, Eric. He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Arthur Jr., Donald, Anthony, and David; and his former spouse, Elaine Spoerlein. Ronald W. Braniff '55-659 of Rancho Mirage, CA, died at his home on May 6. He was 82. Born in Hood River, OR, he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Oregon State. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force in 1956 and began active duty at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington, D.C., in 1957. He worked on projects involving NASA, which further sparked his interest and ambitions. Aer his discharge, Ron received an offer from IBM for sales training that would require him to work in the Pittsburgh, PA, office. He turned the offer down and instead drove across the country to knock on the doors of IBM in Silicon Valley, because he wanted to live and work in San Francisco. He was offered an IBM sales training position, this time in the most competitive geographic location for the industry. He began his long and rewarding corporate career in 1963 as a sales representative in the data processing division, selling IBM punch card accounting machines and 1401 series computers. In 1966, Ron joined Tymshare, a time-sharing company selling computer time and soware packages, as its first sales rep. He spent a total of 18 years at Tymshare, mainly as vice president of sales and marketing and head of the computer services division. In 1984, as the development of the personal computer became a major disruption to Tymshare's business, Ron le to become the president and later CEO of ASK Computer Systems Inc., where he served until 1992, electing to spend the next 15 years consulting and investing in soware startups. roughout his life, he enjoyed jazz, playing tennis, cooking, and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Carlotta Jane; his brother, Jerry; his sister, Patricia Trotman; his children, Shannon Braniff, Kristin Gettinger, and Ryan Braniff; four grandchildren; and his former wife, Suzanne Braniff.
