Our undergraduate brothers are outperforming expectations on every level. The Grand High Alpha award recognizes chapters that have maintained a superior level of operations and a fraternal spirit for at least three consecutive years. A chapter may not earn the Grand High Alpha again until at least three years have elapsed since previously winning the award. is is our fih Grand High Alpha award in our chapter's 101-year history and a remarkable second in our last four years! In this newsletter, we have announced our campaign to support the building of a new chapter house at 1015 NW Monroe. In light of this wonderful news about our undergraduate brothers, now is the time for us as alumni to stand up and support the chapter. e undergraduate brothers are upholding the values of Lambda Chi Alpha, as well as the traditions of Alpha Lambda, all while operating in a chapter house that has lived past its useful life. With a chapter that is clearly one of the very best in the country, imagine what they could do with a new chapter house! We are asking you to consider a contribution as a way to show your support for Alpha Lambda and appreciation for what the fraternity has given all of us: lifelong friendships, valuable lessons learned, and memories that will last a lifetime. Award-Winning Undergraduates Need Our Support TIM BOURQUE '16-1908 West Linn, OR Finance "e values that Lambda Chi Alpha teaches its members to live by have added to success in all aspects of my life." Dante Gigliotti '15-1836, a fellow Marine midshipman in the Navy ROTC, convinced Tim to come to a few events at Alpha Lambda. "I was immediately drawn to the connection and brotherhood. I found brothers from all different walks of life, who looked past any differences, and loved and cared for each other regardless of background. It blows me away to be part of such a large, diverse group of men who share such a close bond." Within NROTC, Tim served as the battalion commanding officer (CO) for the 2017-18 academic year. e battalion CO is the senior- most member of the battalion and is equivalent in a sense to ΛΧΑ's High Alpha role. Tim was responsible for running all aspects of the NROTC unit. In addition to serving as the top- ranked member of the battalion, Tim received multiple awards for leadership and academic excellence. Following graduation, Tim will be commissioned into the Marine Corps as a second lieutenant and hopes to eventually combine his Marine experience with his finance education to become an FBI or ATF special agent. "My favorite ΛΧΑ memory is when a group of us went to downtown Portland days before I shipped off to officer candidates' school on the other side of the country. Spending a night on the town was exactly what I needed before beginning the most difficult experience I have ever had. ere is nothing more reassuring than being in the company of brothers who wholeheartedly support you and have full faith and confidence in your abilities to succeed." JOHN WACZAK '16-1868 Beaverton, OR Physics and Math John chose Lambda Chi Alpha because he felt brotherhood right away. John had been recruited by the OSU Honors College. While the Honors College living conditions would be much better than at Alpha Lambda, John decided he would much prefer to live with the diversity of students at ΛΧΑ. In researching fraternities, John and his parents were really impressed with how well ΛΧΑ addressed questions and potential concerns. It is evident the fraternity has enriched John's college experience and he formed lifetime bonds of friendship. Every term, he has been a scholarship recipient and served as a chapter officer, including High Beta, vice president. John enters his senior year with a 3.92 GPA. He has earned multiple departmental scholarships, and this summer he worked at the Harvard- Smithsonian Center for Astro Physics Research Experiences in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His project was an ionization analyses of coronal shock waves driven by solar eruptions. Alpha Lambda's 101 Years True Brotherhood, Lifetime Friendships, and Leadership Development F or 101 years, Lambda Chi Alpha at Oregon State has provided a home away from home for more than 2,000 initiates. Alpha Lambda brothers have gone on to success in a wide variety of career fields, been loving husbands, fathers and community leaders. Today's ΛΧΑ undergraduates are leading on the OSU campus and in the community, and as a result have ensured Alpha Lambda's place as a premier ΛΧΑ chapter nationally. e following profiles of six undergraduate brothers provide a glimpse of the bright present and future of ΛΧΑ at Oregon State University given the positive impact Alpha Lambda makes in the lives of young men.
