2 THE IRIS Q: Tell me about your career. Ken: I spent two years as a chapter leadership consultant (older alumni knew us as field secretaries or chapter consultants) and nearly two decades working with Northwestern Mutual as the director of training. Since then, I have spent my time working in math education, with a focus on middle school students. Q: What advice would you offer to undergraduates who are interested in joining a fraternity? Ken: Attend class, but don't overlook the tremendous learning opportunities available to you outside of the classroom and within the four walls of the Shelter. Over the years, I have known many successful Delts who acknowledge that they learned far more about life, leadership, and determination from their time in the fraternity than they ever learned in the classroom. Q: Were there any alumni or pledge brothers who made a strong impact on you? Ken: There are too many to count from my own chapter, but I also count Epsilon Mu Delts among my dear friends, including David Amick '78 and Bob Taylor '76. Q: Have you stayed involved with ΔΤΔ over the years? Ken: I've attended 13 Karneas and almost three dozen division conferences. I've also spent two decades as a division vice president and had two stints as a chapter advisor in Bloomington. Q: Tell me about your family and what you do in your spare time. Ken: I met my wife of 35 years at Whitman College while I was traveling for the fraternity. Our daughter, Libby, is 31 years old and son, Daniel is 25. I enjoy watersports of all kinds, with special emphasis on waterskiing and fishing. Q: Is there anything else you would like to add about your time with Epsilon Mu? Ken: I am just beginning to build my memories with Epsilon Mu Chapter and invite all alumni to add to their story as well. The chapter is full of a great bunch of active brothers who keep me young. You can connect with Ken at krgh2oski@aol.com.
