OCT. 4 Town of Quartzsite invites every- one to attend the next meeting of Neighborhood Watch at 6:00 PM, on THURSDAY, OCT. 4th, 2018, at the Quartzsite Com- munity Center. Chief William Ponce said he looks forward to working with the resi- dents to create a safer community. Launched in 1972, Neighbor- hood Watch counts on citizens to organize themselves and work with law enforcement to keep a trained eye and ear on their communities, while demonstrating their pres- ence at all times of day and night. Sponsored by the National Sher- iffs' Association (NSA), the Nation- al Crime Prevention Council says, "Neighborhood watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the coun- try, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer." The nightly news is full of sad stories of horrifi c tales of death, road rage, painful memories being shared, and continued public discourse. Okay, so how do we transition from all that drama? Easy...Gratitude! Free speech and smiles can really go together in our little community, even in turbulant times. You have the freedom and the right to share your happiness through words and your actions. You can choose to smile or frown. Yup... it's a choice! Remember that! In every community, there are folks with sad hearts. Some of these people hide behind profes- sional jobs, while others hide in their homes away from the public. We are blessed to be able to choose how we live and where we live. When our hearts are full of grati- tude, our smiles show through our hearts. But then, we all know there are those who cannot stand it when others are happy. Wow, are they re- ally missing out! As the snowbirds start returning to their favorite nesting spot in the Sonoran Desert, I encourage you to see beyond the tales of darkness in the world, which may or may not be factual, and share your gratitude with others. Give a Smile...it's free therapy! Make life worth living; like enjoying the beautiful sunrise, sipping a cup of tea, chatting with our best friend, watching the clouds drift across the sky. We could be forgiving our en- emies, nurturing our relationships, and feeling gratitude for the bless- ings in our lives. It's great to focus on the destination, but let's learn to be happy in the here and now. Re- member those things we learned in kindergarten? You Could Be Anywhere, Doing Anything, and You Are Here Doing This, Thank You" ~ Robert Greygrass (Thank you from me too!)
