PROP 127 Are you as disgusted as I with this endless barrage of partisan politcs? Add to this, big money billionaires are fl ooding selected political cam- paigns with "dark money" contribu- tion. Are we to believe that they want nothing in return? Are you comfort- able with politicians remaining in offi ce for decades? Now, the average age of politicians are somewhere between grandparent and great- grandparent. Where are all our young people? is there no one in the pipeline who will be qualifi ed to as- sume leadership responsibilities for our country? Enough of my grum- bling. I'm just happy that our Town Council is non-partisan. Yeah! We now have a big money activist trying to overwhelm local control of our legislative process by using our Voter Initiative to sneak thru their personal agenda. Must we quietly accept this piracy? The fi rst question that comes to mind is why is an out-of-stat billion- aire, political activist, meddling in our Arizona politics? Does he have a dog in our fi ght? What is his inter- est in gaining control of our legisla- tive process? We have all heard the saying that "all politics are local." This would be ideal if true, and as if should be, with local Arizona voters determin- ing our destiny. Electors can request the direction we wish our state to grow by voter initiative. We in Ari- zona have created this process to be used by our citizens to "initiate" ac- tion from our legislators. We are currently under attack by billionaire political activist Tom Steyer. He is funding Proposition 127, deceptively entitled "Clean En- ergy for a Healthy Arizona." he is using our Voter Initiative process against us. Typically, this is accom- plished by paying professional vote gatherers to solicit support from registered voters. These vote gath- erers are the people you will see out front of Walmart or Target, col- lecting signatures from uniformed voters, so that proposition 127 will qualify to be placed on the ballot. If passed, Proposition 127 would amend the Arizona State Constitu- tion to mandate Arizona Public Ser- vice (APS) and all other nongovern- mental utilities to obtain 50 percent of the power they deliver to cus- tomers from renewable sources by 2030, irrespective of costs to con- sumers, and without any fi nancial safe-guards to protect consumers. Question 1: Do you want out-of- state billionaire political activists to dictate Arizona's futures? Question 2: Are you willing to risk shutting down the Palo Verde Gen- erating Station, which is the largest source of clean, carbon free electric- ity in the United States, in exchange for a constitutional commitment to a wind and solar-based energy stan- dard locked in forever more? What's at stake is Arizona's ability to at- tract quality employees, high-tech manufacturing, data centers and other desirable employers who rely on the clean, reliable and affordable electricity we currently enjoy.
