Madden Jr. '60 served in the U.S. Air Force as a fighter pilot for over 27 years, retiring as a colonel. He flew F-4s, F-15s, and F5s, flying in three combat tours during the course of his career. For his military service, he earned several awards, including several Air Medals, the Distinguished Flying Cross, a Silver Star, and the Legion of Merit. John has been married to his wife, Stephanie, for 50 years, and is a father to two children and a grandfather to five. Their family all lives within 15 miles of each other, allowing them to get together as often as they can. He feels blessed to have had a great career and beautiful family. James F. "Bud" Thompson Jr. '61 (honored post- humously) was born in 1935 and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1954. During his tour of duty, he served in the infantry and was selected as a member of the Presidential Guard to President Dwight D. Ei- senhower. He then went on to coach football and teach mathematics in Vicksburg, Miss. Bud married his high school sweetheart, Sue Smylie, and they would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in December 2016. Together they had three children: Elease, Jim, and Russell. Bud also had eight grand- children and seven great-grandchildren. Alpha Chi Wins House Corporation of the Year Alumni and Active Chapter Shine at the 63rd National Convention House Corporation of the Year Award 2017, awarded at the 63rd National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, this past summer, was presented to Anthony "Tony" Marucci '89, past National President Steve Nelson, Southern Mis- sissippi '73, John Johnson '64, and past National President Michael Dovilla Baldwin Wallace '94. Larry G. Kirk '68 was elected chairman of the Board of Journal, Inc., Northeast Mississippi's daily newspa- per, earlier this year. He was also the elected director of BancorpSouth, which is now a $17 billion financial services company. Larry is the past Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hancock Fabrics, Inc. Larry and his wife live in Oxford, Miss., to be close to their daughter's family and particularly their grandsons Anders (8) and Harris (5). Phi Award - William "Bill" Jones '60 Taylor A.
