SEPT. 26 TH for the OCT 3 RD edition Desert Messenger News Email: editor@DesertMessenger.com 928-916-4235 www.DesertMessenger.com I'm just saying, PAIN SUCKS! Last week, I twisted my "good" knee walking down a ramp. I try using ramps instead of straining my "bad" knee with stairs. Yeah, how'd that work out? Things I've learned this week: • I'm not superhuman! Darn! I've noticed some people try to put me up on their pedestal, for whatever rea- son. Everyone puts on their pants, one leg at a time, however it was a wee bit more diffi cult for me this week! We're all just folks doing our best to get along in this crazy world. • I used to think physical pain only limited my physical being, but I learned that my mind also was af- fected this week, as I could not fo- cus as well as usual. Or...maybe it had something to do with lack of sleep? Who knew a recliner was a substitute for a good bed? • The world goes on without you! The news was still crazy. Birds continued singing, the winds blew, summer fl owers bloomed and dust continuted to build up on my shelves. I also saved a lot of fuel, as I stayed home more. The sun came up without my even noticing. Guess I better explain that...I have been known to sing the sun up over the years, being grateful for the bless- ings in my life as the sun signals the beginning of the new day. It's a wonderful way to begin the day- Try it, you might like it! • Facebook doesn't care if you have physical limitations. How cool is that? Folks could still connect with me while laid up in my recliner... and they didn't even know how my hair is unbrushed, or my eyes were glazed over from lack of sleep. I could even keep up the facade of "everything's fi ne in my world," while posting encouraging words to others. This just goes to show that no one knows what is NOT posted on social media, and sometimes it's none of their business! • Attitude is everything! Our attitude is a choice! Happiness is a choice! Accidents happen, but how we react to this will help or hinder our heal- ing. Having an attitude of gratitude really helped me. I was able to laugh about not even noticing the pain in my "bad" knee, because the other pain overtook my focus. Laughter and music heals our pain, or at least helps us handle it better. I watched silly shows on TV, listend to my spiritual and inspirational music and just rested...when I could. Gratefulness won't take away the pain, but it helps create a bit of re- lief from the pain by focusing on the beauty in our world- the apprecia- tion of what is valuable and mean- ingful to us. It's as simple as notic- ing and being happy for what you do have! I'll take that any day! So I say, thank you for reading my words to- day. For that I am grateful! "Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude." ~ A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
